A pair of swallowtails!

Dover, NJ

I had a little treat in the garden today! A pair of giant swallowtails stopped by for nearly 10 minutes. The female was only interested in laying eggs, but the male wouldn't let her be! They were within one foot of each other the whole time, just fluttering around. It was quite a site! I snapped about 20 pics, but only a few came out good. Here's one of 'em.

Here's a pic with the female laying an egg.

I think this is the same female a few days earlier getting some nectar from a lantana.

Great photos LM. The second one with the female laying an egg is excellent.

Wow that's neat to see a butteryfly laying eggs!

Great pics Mark! It's their season. I got some great pics last year of them and ran right out to get more when I saw them on Friday. They were dancing around for at least an hr! I finally got tired of trying to get a good one and let them be. I hope they find the Rue I got for them. I'm actually not going to try and raise them this year, but hoping to send the eggs to a friend in Ohio. Here's one of the shots I like that I got.
