Does anyone know this moth?

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I guess it is a moth? As a teeny hairy caterpillar it leaves teeny holes in brug leaves. Then the caterpillar sheds his skin and this is the moth that pops out. Odd looking but pretty. About 3/8" long. Anybody know what this critter is called? I've searched the internet with no success.

Thank you Thank you Thank you! I found it! It is a Grape plume moth, Pterophorus periscelidactylus(Fitch). What a name!

In my Earthlink Newsletter this week, there was a site on Bugs under "Weird Web". I checked it out a bit. I think if you find an unusual bug, you can submit it for ID'ing and post your picture.

Vee-8, I think your picture is excellent! Better than the other one.

Check this out! Gita

Thank you Gita! I have tons of weird bugs on brugs pictures that I have not had a chance to id yet. I'll definitely use your link.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Well shoot. That site will not work for me Gina. I need to keep most of my pictures for brugmansia projects that can't be public yet. :( Oh well. I'll just keep plugging along and I'm sure the project will be complete sometime before 2095! ha! :)

And at least now I know that brugmansia insect id's are a no no on this forum. :) lol!

Vee8ch,

Sorry to show my ignorance, but what do you mean that Brug Insect ID's are a "no-no" on this Forum????? help me out here....

Is it that it would show pics. of your Brugs that are being hybridized. and not for public viewing yrt, OR--is there some kind of rule on DG about this???????

I had no problem opening it from the post I sent YOU!

I got an email that told me I was not allowed to post insect id's on this forum. That's all I know. Didn't question it but wanted too.
The bug guide is great Gita. I had no problem accessing it. My problem is that I am working on my own "personal website". It has been too many years since I've had the glorious freedom to enjoy my very own simple personal website again. . I am feeling a little stingy with my pictures right now. If they are already used on another website that is as public as bug guide before my site is ready then my site will be more boring than it will probably still be anyway! ... ha ... funny!
I have other bugs on other kinds of plants besides brugs. I'll use bug guide for that. Thank you again. ... vicki

Unless it was Dave or Terry ......

I understand the need for posting on certain forums but also since it is Brug related and I now know what it was I mashed the other day, it was of benefit to me and will probably be of benefit to others.

Another case in point, Kell posted pictures asking about this insect in the Vegatable Forum http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/529762/ As a result when I went "searching" DG this morning I immediately found her thread and was been able to identify that I had a Squash Bugs which I needed to drown.

Just my 2 cents.

Judy that is how I felt about the brug bugs id too. Who would know brug bugs better than brug growers. And we all learn in the process. My one cents worth ... lol!

I wonder who would have done such a thing to someone new to Daves....how rude!

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

It's ok. :) Maybe the person(s) responsible will explain it some day.

And I learned it is ok to share my bug id pics here in freedom and in good spirit the way I intended it to be. Thanks guys!

ignore them lol

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

Yes..I would say that unless their name is followed by Dave's Garden Admin., I wouldn't worry about it. People post their bug questions here all the time

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Maybe the person who emailed Vicki was just trying to be nice and pointing a newbie to where the experts were. They may not have known we had Ms Munché here, our very own expert!

I had no clue we even had a bug forum, or I would have posted my bugs there too. I love my bug picture. They so grossed me out I haven't eaten zucchini since and may never again. LOL.

Hi All, That was me who sent Vee8ch the email. I mailed her with good intentions. I was on DG when she made her first post of the hook worm. Excellent picture. I then saw her second post.
Being that she was a new subscriber I thought she may not know that there was a forum for ID's and so forth. I felt the need to help a new person out. I thought she may start posting various bugs for ID on this forum. Not knowing or realizing that her intentions were to post Bugs in relation to Brugs at that time.
SO it was Me. I thought that she may be on the road of posting incorrectly and wanted to help out. I mailed her in private just wanting to help out with the ID of her moth and avoid her possibly posting things not related to the brug forum.
Gosh it was all as simple as that.

Great photos V8 and Kell. Guess I need to upgrade my camera (again).

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Kin, I just knew it was sent with good intentions though I had no clue it was you.

We all know you are a man with only good intentions!!! Your incredible garden reflects that!! LOL.

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

That pic grosses me out too.. but I will still eat zucchini.. at least until the squash borers kill them off

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Aren't they just so nasty, Laura? I have 2 kinds of them setting up colonies. I love grilled zucchini too. But I keep picturing creamy guts after the initial crunch bite.

I had tons of these on this poor zucchini but they all ran when they saw the camera except for these 2 who were too involved to notice. Imagine the nerve to use my zucchini as a bedroom.

gadZUCHS!

I'm burnt out on zuchs. Had my own years of planting 3 hills when one would feed the neighborhood. Now the last two years, the neighbor (relatively new veggie gardener) has had zucchini till the cows come home. Keeps showing up with yet another candidate for a Guinness record and so proud of her accomplishment. I'm gonna try drilling holes just large enough for the stem and rooting brugs in them!!
