Do you all remember my special needs foster babies?

The ones that had cerebellar hypoplasia? http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/480303/ There was some concern about their quality of life. The male puppy (John) wasn't too bad, he had just a little head bobble. But Pixie, well she could hardly squat to go to the bathroom or eat her food the first few days she was home her shaking was so bad. She looked like a jack rabbit thumping the ground. She hardly had any control of her body. The only rest she had from shaking was sleep. The day I picked the litter up from the shelter I thought there was no hope for her. She was smaller and had less muscles mass then any of the litter. She screamed as if in pain and was very beat up by her litter mates and boy did she shake. Little by little, she improved but still had the shake-shake-shake. Her brother was adopted quickly but Pixie stayed on with us awhile longer. Each day getting a little more agile and more control of her little body. It was time to start looking for a home for her.

I new I had to find someone who could look past her problem. I did many interviews and a few home visits. None were the right home for her. One day I got an email from a couple who wanted to adopt Pixie's mom but she had been adopted. They wanted to know about Pixie. They researched cerebellar hypoplasia and didn't think it was a big deal. They came to my house one Saturday to meet her. They spent an hour with her and an hour asking us questions. Before they left they I new she had captured their heart. I also new Pixie found her forever home.

My family and I took Pixie to her new home the next day. The couple had their whole family there to meet Pixie. It was a bitter sweet day but one I'm forever grateful for. Pixe found the best home a dog could have. I'm happy to report that Pixie is the star of the dog park, the fastest most agile girl there. Her shaking has all but STOPPED! She only has a small shake to her head when she wakes up. She gets to go to work with the man of the house daily and is a big hit there too. They had a wedding gown made for her for their upcoming bridal shower. This couple will be married in the fall. Here is her recent photo. Isn't she the most beautiful dog you've ever seen? Of course, I'm a little partial. Thanks for listening to my long story about Pixie.
