Did anyone catch Paul James on HGTV today

I watched Paul James today and he was talking about a lot of very interesting things. One thing that I thought was real interesting was if you have a plant you want to start from seed but this plant is one that is real hard to transplant, start it in a paper sack. Take the sack and spray inside the entire sack with Pam or a product like it, then add some good potting soil and place your seed inside to grow. When it is time to transplant take the sack and it's contents and place it in the ground. The sack will deteriorate and the plant will grow.

Has anyone tried this method before?

Then one more that I thought was real interesting. If you have spider mites take a bowl and place equal amounts of water with apple vinegar and set it with your plants. The mites will end up in the liquid.

Also another good suggestion when feeding your container plants only use half the amount of fertilizer as it calls for. This will help to prevent burning the plant, also always remember to water your plant throughly before fertilizing.

I don't know about anybody else but I really enjoy watching Paul James, he is such a ham.

I used to love watching his show Gardening by Yard or something like that

I like him too..... but always miss him because its Saturday morning and I'm in the garden..... I wish he was on during the evening hours. Thanks for sharing the info ..... Did he say what the "Pam" does sprayed in the sack.....How do you keep you sack together until it is ready to transplant..... ?

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

Maybe that is what the pam is for. So the moisture won't bother the sack.

But no he didn't really say. That is MO only on it.

Sounds like a good MO to me....... and I'll give it a try ....... I've found the coffee filter/ziploc bag method works really well.... so well in fact I tossed lots of sprouts this year........ but I'm game for a new method and apple vinegar is on the list to get the next time at the store...... thanks for sharing

He also mentioned the woody cutting in a potato trick. Poke a hole in the tater just a touch smaller than the cutting. Stick the cutting in and plant the whole potato leaving just the cutting showing above soil. I don't think he's actually done this one though (because then he mentioned - it may work but it's a waste of a good tater "and oh boy I love me some taters!" LOL!!!!!)

I gotta get TiVo just for "Gardening by the Yard".... think I could convince DH???

Safety Harbor, FL(Zone 9b)

It would be worth it, mysticwill. I can watch all my cool gardening shows...whenever it is convenient (when I'm not out in the yard - that's when LOL)
