I believe I may have the "cheap" hybrid you have photographed at the top ... and mine does seem to display a number of color variations depending on temperature (and other factors I am sure I have no clue of)

I just bought my first Hibiscus, a simple red Disco Belle and I am thrilled with it.


Found it on 'death row' at HD , just hoping the tag was right.

It bloomed in 3 days and I'd say it was well worth 2.50 .

Do we feel another addiction coming on ? lol
