E bay plumeria Kaleinani

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

I got two cuttings this past spring, this one rooted well( you can tell by the large leaves) nice sweet fragrance and medium sized flowers. The other cutting is blooming too but small semi opened flowers and undeveloped leaves.

Those are some lushious colors! I am always so nervous ordering from eBay. Can you share the sellers who have been greta to deal with?

Kyle, I just got Kaleinani as well. That's a lovely picture and a great color.

Calif_Sue, you are smart to be cautious about ordering plumerias from eBay as there are a lot of unscrupulous sellers there. I bought a Kaleinani from happylei808. Her cuttings look healthy and are a generous size, but some of the cultivars may not be what she claims they are. For example, her Pink Pansy does not look like J.L. Pink Pansy. Still, her prices are very good so, as long as you know a head of time that the name may not be right, I think it is worth the risk.

Here is a thread which has some trusted ebay plumeria sellers: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/530070/

The E bay seller lived in Oahu Honolulu to be exact, I don't remember which one it was...was last April when I won them. Kaleinani is about $40 a cutting from most growers I got two real nice cuttings for about $18 .

Kyle, you got a great price.

Kyle, what's the fragrance like? You've got to love the great bloomers! Here's a picture of a Kaleinani that a friend of mine has:

great pic Clare, the fragrance is like a cross between Celadine(common yellow) and a light jasmine, subtle but very nice.

Wow, Kyle. That is great. Did you find this one hard to root at all? I may have asked you this before, and I apologize if I did, but what happened to your collection of 200 plumerias? Did you give them away or sell them? I suppose space was an issue? I am coming up on your number, and space is definitely a problem.

Clare I donated a lot of them to a school for gifted kids in Kansas city about 8 years ago.Ran out of room for sure..when they get real big I just can't handle them.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Ah. That was a super nice thing to do. I hear ya about their size. They do get big. I don't know what I'm going to do when mine get really big. I guess I may take cuttings and sell the mother tree and start over with my cuttings. I'm trying to buy dwarves these days if I can to keep them longer.

I have dwarf deciduous and it has stayed small for years, blooms pretty white flowers,

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

Clare, do you have a pix of any mature dwarf? How thick does the trunk get? Does it look more like a shrub than a tree?

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Ah, I had a dwarf deciduous, but it rotted when I tried to root it last winter. Those P. obtusa species are harder to root than the P. rubra species. I'll have to get that one again because I've heard that the fragrance is divine!

Nery, I have a Dwarf Singapore Pink and a Dwarf Singapore White, but they are just rooted cuttings at this point. I think the dwarf ones grow very slowly, and their maximum height is around five feet or less. They can be multi-branched and look like a shrub. I'll see if I can find a pic of a mature one. The trunk gets fairly thick.
