What is it?

This has a flower hanging down like a Brug, but has large Buds on top like Datura, can you tell by the leaves, I have never had Datura befor although I have a couple of very small ones coming on.

I wanna guess before the experts roll in -
with the bloom hanging down and what I can see of it, plus the colors of the leaves, I'd guess a brug. The only dats I've seen had dark green leaves with a distintive shape but I know I've seen only a fraction.

Thanks 8ft. I think a seed must have gotten in my other flower seeds, it is growing along my driveway, the flower sure looks like a peach color Brug.

LOL Doris, you have brugs/daturas now growing as volunteers in your yard? LOL You sure have come a long way.

I see what Blaine means about the leaves but I really can't tell. At first I said brug but the lower leaves have an odd shape to me. And a brug only that tall blooming from seed would be unusual though possible. Much more common in daturas. Can you give us a close up of the flower? If it is spent, a datura flower can limp over can't it?

You know Brinda sure seems to know her daturas maybe she can tell for sure.

this is the bud, and it never stood up or I would have seen it as it is in the open, actualy the man that cuts my grass saw it first.
kell I get more confused every day but then, I only have one more year to hit 80 *LOL*

really strange. The bloom looks like brug but leaves look like datura

maybe I have a Brug X Datura *LOL* guess I will see what happens when the buds open up.

The shape of the leaves makes me think it's a datura. I think after more bloom you will get a better idea. My cherokee brugmansia has buds coming out of the top.

Edited to say: I can't imagine a brugmansia seeding in your climate zone!

Can you take a pic of the buds on top Doris? LOL. A real mystery!!!

Doris, if the flower doesn't produce a thorn apple then you know it must be a brug of some type lol...!

Thanks BrugAddict I will wait and see.

very true! lol! My daturas have produced nothing but thorn apples this year. They start trying to bloom, never fully open up like a brug would, and then suddenly I see this horse chestnut prickly looking thing. The dismay! I've decided to dump daturas. I don't find them that facinating.

Looks like some of my Daturas here :)
