Best way to root multiply cutting?

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

I want to make several rooted cuttings for the coming up Round-Up in Sept...maybe a few of each kind...do you think I could put them all in the same container of water...or each type in a separate container...? I don't think in 2 months I will have a problem trying to separate the roots, do you?

Thank you for your help! Margie

I think people just keep them in separate jars to stop cross contamination of problems. If you're going to bubbler them it's easy to get those valves and a little extra tubing.

I bet they would be OK in 1 container. But why don't you then put them in soil after they get nubbies? I use those red plastic cups and then just give those. They are so easy Margie and you don't get long water roots. Of course you do have to water them which could be a pain..

Margie, Susie taught me a trick several years ago that I absolutely love! When you take the cuttings, write the name ON THE CUTTING with a sharpie pen. No worries about it getting mixed up with another or losing it's tag. I write the cross on seedlings, too, when they get potted up into 5 gallon pots. The sharpie will last about a year, and you can still see enough of the mark to tell what it is and remark it.

That's a great idea Ronna, hmmm, that Susie is a smart cookie eh! I'd put them in separate red plastic cups or if you have the canning jars so you can see the water and watch the cuttings. The jars are what I use. One thing is for sure you can never be too careful when it comes to some kind of cross contamination.

I do mine in one container but make sure you mark them and don't try to remember which is which.
