Jatpha seedling

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

I couldn't find the seed pod on the mother plant,I guess it fell into a pot close by,and look how the seed pod is on top and not touching the soil, its rooted but don't know how, gave it a little tug ,and its rooted good.

That is great! Looks real healthy too.

Kaleem,

I think the germination period on these are about 2 nano seconds. Just kidding. :^)))

With warmth and some sun, a week is about right.

Tropicman, I collect the seed pods on these. I can plant the entire pod when it's yellow and will get 3 seedlings popping up showing their little "dirt heads". Seems I have recently seen another seed germinating the same way.....is it sweet peas? Sorry, can't remember.

Even in this photo they still hang on to the spent pod. Doesn't hurt to pull it off at this stage just to pretty it up.

The strange thing, was this pod was from the winter bloom, the spring bloom got knock off during a storm before the pod had a change even to develope.so I'd say 5 to 7 months,at least,it was never planted just laying on top of the soil.

Jatropha seeds germinate fast if you soak them in water for a day or two first.
Tman, which one is that? Is it buddah's belly? Molly's are different aren't they?
I have little seedlings coming up here and there where I failed to collect the pods. They pop out of the seed pods and can land a pretty good distance from the mother plant.

Cala,

The photo I posted is of the Jatropha Multifida, CoralBush. I also have the Buddha Belly, but it hasn't thrown any seeds off yet.

One the CoralBush, the seeds don't fall far from the tree. They are quite heavy so will fall off before they are mature. They will finish maturing on the ground or planted in a pot without a problem.

Oh, that is a neat one then! My jatropha integrima sends seeds 10 ft away when it pops and the buddah's belly too.
I've seen the coral bush in other gardens down here, I might have to pick one up at the garden center. I like the shape of the leaves, sort of airy and light.

Yep,Multifida,as everybody that sees it says, your growing Marijuanna!
Even after you say no,they give you that look yeah right Like I believe that!!! LOL!

I have a jatropha in a pot that I bought last year, and overwintered in the gh, and when I get a new camera battery I will post a picture, cause I do not know what kind it is. I am wanting to put it in the ground, but am afraid it will not overwinter here. I think I got it when I went to Orlando last year. Has red flowers and does not have the bulge, like I guess must be the Budha belly? Looks like a tree, small shrub like tree.

When you can, post a photo. I'm sure we can help you.

I lost my battery charger for my camera. but have ordered a new one, so soon as it gets in I will take a picture. I appreciate your help.

My J.multifida does not seed as freely as the buddha belly. The thickness of the rooted part could indicate something about the period it's been there.
