Brugmansia bed

Victoria,, BC(Zone 8b)

I planted most of my brugs in this new bed in April to see how they would do in the ground and to save on some watering of pots. These were all 18" cuttings from Liz last fall. Most of them have buds waiting to bloom and are very healthy except for some earwig damage.

I have two pods on my Peaches & Cream - I have no idea how they were pollenated but I am very excited as these are my first seed pods. There was a Charles Grimaldi and White Sauveolens out at the same time.
I might need some help, Jeanne or Linda, when they are ripe.

And I just thought this was a nice combination this morning as I was taking a pic of my brug bed. Lilies, melianthus major and golden hops in background. Sure smells great !

Absolutely gorgeous pictures Heather. Your garden is lovely. So much colour. Is that the Peaches and Cream that was in your dining room when I was there in May?
I especially like your last picture.

Heather, I love that! The look and style I enjoy the most. When those brugs kick in that's going to be a really fun border. I'd have a rut worn out in the grass walking back and forth following the nose.
To the right towards the back of the brug bed, is that a dahlia or sunflower? Can I get a closer shot of those? I like the tall statements scattered around and this is my 2nd year sliding into a dahlia addiction.

you won't hurt my feelings by posting more pics (...he says with eyelashes fluttering)

That is beautiful. Thanks for the pic! :) All I would need would be a comfy chair and a glass of wine. I could sit and look all day. My poor brugs, get dug up and stored in the basement over winter. It is usually August before I get a really big show of color. They are covered with buds so won't be long.

Thanks to everyone for their kind comments. This bed was a bit of an experiment and in hind sight I think I overplanted but I like the look !
The tall flowers at the right are sunflowers. 8ftbed, a new pinkish one that I tried this year, I know this is the brug forum but here is a photo. I also have some "Bishop of Llandaff Children" dahlias that have lovely dark foliage. You just can't see them for all the brug foliage !

Heather, where did you get a pink sunflower???? I love it. Jeanette

There's a bunch of us pink addicts here. LOL Do tell the source of the pink sunflowers!

The sunflower seeds were from "Plants of Distinction" which one of our local stores carries but if you do a search there is a couple of places that sells them. I am hoping to save some seeds as they are not exactly cheap !

It's so nice to see that you can get that lush tropical look up there as I will most likely eventually move up there (not for at least 4 yrs, to the Sechelt-Sunshine Coast area) and am really unfamiliar about that zone as I just started getting into tropicals. And I will eventually have to figure how many of my plants I can bring across with me.

Victoria,, BC(Zone 8b)

A lot of people up here in south western Canada are into tropicals, of course we have to bring them into our greenhouses or homes for the rainy winter months. We are all in "zonal denial" LOL ! Of course we have our "Liz" in Vancouver to keep us supplied with brugs.
I wish you luck in bringing your plants with you - I would hate to leave mine if I moved.

Ocht, that Heather (says I in my best Scottish accent) She's got a lot of lovely plants. Her gardens this year were/are really beautiful with poppies, and lots of other beauties. She's got a green thumb that girl, if only she'd post more pictures....

Calif_Sue you would fit right in with the rest of us zone deniers. We've got palms, passionfruits, bananas, plumerias, bird of paridise, oh and brugs of course. Most things do have to come in to a GH or something similar for the Nov-Mid March wet season.

But Linda, Heather, you guys are on the coast so you still have moderate temperatures fairly, year round. My daughter is just South of Seattle and she put most of hers in her greenhouse last winter but left CG and one other one out. Charley was a little slow but she said he came on up and I can't remember how the other one did.

This winter she is going to cut them off and use bubblers but leave the roots in the pots (9 gallon and muck buckets) on her deck, cover with straw and visquene (heavy plasstic) over all. That should be interesting.

I did leave 3 brugs out in their pots last year. They were under the eaves, but no mulch or anyuthing around them. we had a week of freezing weather and that finished them off. I am sure that if I had them covered in mulch and close to the house, they'd make it. I have a deck that I turned into a haphazard GH, so they all come in.

Heather, I wish I lived where I could get some of Liz's cuttings.

You are one lucky girl.

Your yard is beautiful. Enjoy!!

Thanks for telling us about the sun flower. I went to my nursery and found that they carry Plants of Distinction seeds, so I'll be able to plant some next season. It was called Cherry Rose Sun Flower.

Glad you found them, Mary. The Plants of Distinction group do have some different seeds.
