I have 3 tropical hibiscus that I overwinted in my sunroom for the last 2 years. 1 is a tree, the other are the shrub type. All three are in very large pots. In the winter my sunroom stays no colder than 50*, but usually around 65*. This season and last, I've had a problem getting my hibiscus to rebloom. The plants go part way dormant over the winter........probably because of the temps, and maybe because they don't get enough sun......anyway....
The first time I overwintered them, I didn't cut them back when I brought them in. After dropping about 1/2 the leaves.....they kinda sat dormant for a while, then they started growing new leaves. A friend told me to cut them back. So I cut them back close to spring. They didn't bloom until very late summer.
Last fall I was told to cut them back as soon as I brought them in. So I did. They still went part way dormant, but seemed to "wake up" sooner than the season before. But still this season....I've only had 1 bloom out of all three plants. The foliage on all three looks wonderful.....but no blooms.
When should they start blooming.....and why aren't mine?

Tropical Hibiscus Not Blooming
hello jenny. just a suggestion- i started out with a little baby hibiscus from wal-mart. it wasn't any bigger than half a foot. at first, it would take forever to bloom a flower, but i took the advice of one of the members on this forum (can't remember who) and fed my plant some MG Bloombooster from the home depot. i've had the plant for about 3 or 4 months and now it stands over a foot tall. I usually don't go more than a few days without a flower, sometimes two, on it. here is a pic for your viewing pleasure. just follow the directions on the box as far as how much to give and how often. hope you see some results.

Thanks! I was reading in another thread last night about feeding it with bloom booster. I'm definately going to try that! :O) Lovely pic. Thank you.
