I thought there was a thread going on this plant but I couldn't find it, so here 'tis. Doing well, but not as tall as I've seen elsewhere. Also, I don't see signs of it being invasive (silently praying that I don't have to eat my words later on...).
Perhaps you can notice my black EE on the top of pix, notice it's not solid black though it is in full sun.
Root Beer Plant
Ada just sent me one of these and it looks great. The heat hasn't seemed to bother it one bit so far. Can't wait to see how big it will get. Might have to move out of the house this winter.
Yours looks good. Does it bloom?
this is new for me (got last fall) so I don't know about flowers. I saw one in a Dallas nursery last summer that was about 8ft tall by 3 ft wide. Just lovely. Mine is only about 1' X 1' right now.
Vossner,
How long have you had yours planted? I got mine from the KYRU last September. 2 leaves have turned into about 25-30 now and are 5 feet tall. Yes they are creepers, but since I need my rootbeers to make shade for some of my smaller shade plants, this is okay with me.
I pull out the little ones that creep around the shade garden, just have to be careful I don't pull any EE's by accident. Many look similar when they are babies. I also snap off many of the lower leaf stems now to keep the plants like a canopy.
Molly
:^)))
molly I bought my plant last fall, qt container, if I remember correctly. died back in winter and came back. I would like to use it like you, as canopy for EEs. I love this plant, and hope it never becomes a plant I "love to hate"
