Any idea which variegated brug this is

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

While at a nursery south of here, I couldn't pass this one by. It had a number of yellow leaves, which I've taken off and it's loaded with buds. The tag said "datura" with peach blooms.... Definitely not a datura. So, I'm thinking Maya, possibly? Any ideas? Being a proud newbie brug mommy, I had to post a pic that shows off all of the buds on it.

Here's another pic that shows the leaves a little better.

And one more. I just love the foliage!

Hey, it's definetely no datura, but it looks to me it's a 'Snowbank'!!! Great find :-)

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

It doesn't have nearly as much variegation as my Snowbank. It looks more like my Maya.

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Those 3 brugs are so hard to identify lol... Maya, Snowbank & P& C...she's pretty though!

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

Maybe I'm wrong on this, but I've heard P&C can be really stingy with blooms, which is why I'm leaning toward Maya.

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Don't believe that about PC.
This is her third flush getting ready to open. I'll follow this with a pic from 10 days ago on her last flush.

I did notice just now that all the buds are on the branches that get the most sun. This is on the east wall of the garage. I think you'll have to wait until they bloom for a more definitive answer. I have Maya which hasn't bloomed yet and so far SB shows more variegation.

This was her 10 days ago.

This morning I counted 19 buds.

Hey, hey, hey, is that a black pot that you sprayed??? If so, great idea - did you use tape or do it freehand?? Oh, yeah, nice brug too...I'm of the school of, if you cannot get buds, get a really drop dead, good looking pot...

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

that's a Monrovia pot- I'll lock up the brakes if I see one on the curb. Last year I started painting over their beige brand band, not wanting them to get credit for stuff I pot up. I've also started spray painting other pots. A couple that same color blue but most are painted white hoping the pots will stay a little cooler and not cook roots. But I was thinking how nurseries will have rows upon rows of black nursery pots in full sun and they do just fine. Probably more wasted efforts on my part.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

OMG!! Great idea! I don't use anything white because of tree drip. Now, I think, I see that your pot was green and you sprayed the blue. I have a can of unused hot copper paint and bright silver/chrome. I will be trying it today, assuming I can remember where I planted the spray cans...

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

there's some relatively new paint out there for painting plastic.
(sorry for the hi-jack emily but the iron was hot :) )

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

I had my first brug dream last night. I drempt (spelling?) that there was a terrible storm and there were pieces of my brugs everywhere. This variegated brug had grown to be 20 ft tall but there were branches and leaves from it scattered across the yard. Thankfully, all is well and all buds are still intact. I feel for all those out there who have to endure storms on a regular basis.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Oh no, emily's got it bad. I couldn't believe it when I started dreaming about them - thought I had finally flipped.

Muskegon, MI(Zone 5a)

I would say its a P and C since the bud is going to hang like a peaches and cream....I find it hard to grow in my garden but sicne Ive moved it its sure taking off....Judy

Sorry Emily, I just have to ask Blaine where he gets Monrovia pots and why are they so great? Gotta tell you a sstory:

Years ago we were driving in pouring down rain on a small 2 lane state highway and got a flat tire on our pick up. On the road side. The jack would not work. This was very dark night and I was out with a flashlight trying to keep traffic from killing the flat-tire changer. . Along came a very big truck , going the other direction. It stopped, backed up in our lane and the driver got out, opened the back of the truck, took out a large plank to put the jack on, with a jack, jacked up our truck and helped change the tire. He was driving for Monrovia and he had a real bad toothache. Now that is what I call a wonderful man.

Go ahead Emily. Thanks for the space. Jeanette

What's a Monrovia Pot ?

Hi Emily,

I'll post pictures of my 4 variegated brugs, maybe you can decide, I'm really not sure.

I definitely don't have nice things to say of thse vareigated brugs, but i'm not giving up on them yet. peaches and cream and variegata are over 2 years old and only to my knees, and never bloomed, neither has snowbank, maya is new, and doing pretty well, has a y on her, didn't check for baby blooms though. I must not be holding my mouth right LOL

I think Peaches and Cream looks the closest. I'm surprised they're so small especially considering they're planted in the ground! What happened to your S variegata? The leaves don't look right at all.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL< I have no idea, it's the only one in a pot and it's in the shadey part of the barn, maybe that's why. Could be some bug on it , have to go check it I guess. I noticed that when I snapped the shot, leaves looked kind of strange don'tthey.

I have no idea what's going on with them, I just did plant them in the ground though, a couple months ago and they probably are twice the size that they were before, so their doing alot better now that their in the ground, But poor peaches and cream gets too much morning sun I guess, and she wilts so bad, but perks back up when the shade comes over the house in the afternoon. They get plenty of water, but the heat index here the last couple of days was ll0 and l09 I'd melt in that too LOL. They get plenty of fertilizer every month, I use miracle grow and also use the bloom buster miracle grow on them.

I would say P & C too, here's mine, second flush.

You see, I knew I wasn't holding my mouth right, I'm gonna have to go out there and sing to them I guess. Not, that would surely kill them LOL.

yours is beautiful sue

Monrovia was BIG on the Victory Garden, I shall never forget those wonderful garden shows, we waited every Sunday afternoon to see it...

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

Of all of the ferts I use, anything with a high middle number, I avoid. I read on this forum somewhere that brugs prefer a lower middle number and a higher 3rd number. I can't remember why brugs don't like a lot of phosphorous. Anyone know why? I think it was on one of Monika's posts about brug nutrition.

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Good story Jeannette- Monrovia is a big grower/wholesaler I guess you'd say. Their perennial pots (in all different sizes) are this olive green with the beige band. Easily distinguished in the nurseries and garden centers.

These are not the cheap thin nursery pots like most things are sold in. They're thick, solid plastic and extremely durable. Keep an eye out on trash days for people tossing them after planting new perennials. They are absolutely worth the stop.

Kathy / emily - my S.variegata has the same crinkly leaves and was the only variegated bothered by mites in the hoophouse this spring. Big splashy foliage just doesn't seem to be it's thing. I doubt I'll carry mine over this winter but may change my mind with the first real flush thats coming soon. In ground it's up around 6'+
.

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

My guess is Peaches and Cream. What do you think?

One of my Charles Grimaldi is blooming his head off so I grabbed some pollen from a new flowerand pollenated all of the open flowers on this one. I wonder if I'll get any seeds.

The leaves look identical and are very soft as well. :)

You know, Brugie told me I didn't have PC. Your pic Vicki does show it hanging really straight down. Mine are canted out a little but the blooms are still so similar. After a couple of days they turn more of a peachy color.

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

My peaches and cream isn't stingy with blooms. My 4 foot plant had it's last flush of 25 blooms. I call that generous for such a small plant. I am growing it like a tree form by stripping the bottom leaves off The resulting canopy shows off the pendulant flowers like icicles hanging down. When I return to Florida I will post some pics.
I am no expert emily but my vote is on P&C for your brug.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

I have Peaches and Cream, Maya, Sunset and Variegata. I've had Peaches and Cream 3 yrs., and still is only about 2 ft. tall with nary a bloom ever. I've had Maya since last Summer and it is about 3 ft., but still haven't seen a bloom. I purchased Sunset last year and it is about 5 ft. tall, but still has had no blooms. I've had Variegata sincle last Summer, and so far it has had 1 bloom. I just can't seem to get the variegated ones to bloom for me. I had Peaches and Cream in full sun last year and thought maybe that was the problem, so this year I moved it to filtered shade. What am I doing wrong anyway?

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

My goodness, mini, that is a shame. I've never had great luck with variegated plants, and I love them, but Maya has bloomed and she's only been here a couple of months. Do you think the heat keeps them from blooming?? I have an 11+ foot Rosamond and Pink Beauty, two year old plants, with many and huge Ys that have not even had a bud, and last year, as new rootings, they flushed several times. Shoot, I don't know what's up...

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

I'd almost think it was the heat but if you're getting lots of blooms in Ft Lauderdale.. well I guess heat and humidity isn't an issue. :)
