Hi all, I'm Janis, and I had an offer of a brug today, (to that person thanks again), and I know absolutely nothing about them except that they are beautiful. Can they be successfully grown in my zone? (6a) If so what about wintering them? Any and all advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated.... I would love to have at least one, but my biggest fear is getting it and it not growing here or me killing it :(
TIA
Janis
Brand new to Brugs... need advice and info
Janis....have you checked the SEARCH? There is great information in there, just what you are asking. Good times to look for are fall and spring posts...I think. ;>)
Thanks!
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I just typed a big post and hit send and it got lost forever. Let me try to rewrite it without screaming.
Welcome Janis to the brug forum!! There is so much info on here if you do a search like Carol suggested. I do them all the time.
From what I understand from people chat on here, most that live in cold zones, either put their brugs in their basement or someone with low light at about 50 degrees so they go dormant for the winter. Others will toss the plant esp if they have little room and save a few cuttings to reroot and grow. Others have a sunroom, or a basement with lights set up and they continue to grow them all winter. Come the middle of August, there will be lots of talk on here about how people are planning on doing it. I think lots will cut long pieces of their brugs and over winter them in aerated water this winter. I read on here it works so well and it is much easier.
Hibiscus lives in Ohio in a colder zone than you do, and she does great with all her brugs. She even gets winter blooms with no greenhouse.
I say go for it and if it dies, try again. I am sure we all will be happy to help you along the way if you need it. These are a lot of fun and easy to grow esp if you just do a few..
Hi Janis,
Welcome to the brug forum. I'm sure you will find answers to all your questions here. Have fun and don't be afraid. These plants are pretty easy to grow once you know how to detect the few problems they might encounter.
Thanks guys.... I really appreciate the help. I guess I"ll just be hanging out here, learning what I can and asking question along the way :)
Thanls so much!!!
Janis
