Last shot of the day

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

Big Red was late, too busy bossing everybody around and running them off. With his attitude it will be a wonder if he reproduces.

Great shot. What kind is he? Here in NH all we get are the Ruby Throated; but they are a joy to watch.

Male Anna very tough-Rich The Rubies are all anybody gets back East. These guys are very territorial and spend most of their day running off the other birds. This is a shot of Queenie a female visitor about to be ambushed by Big Red. He is almost twice her size, she did not see him coming in.

Yes, Rubies are the only ones east of the Mississippi. I did have a wonderful experience in Hollywood, FL at Butterfly World. Not only was it full of lovely gardens full of butterflies, but they also had numerous kinds of hummingbirds. It was my first time seeing any other than the Rubies. They weren't in cages, just flying around all the gardens, interacting with the butterflies and other birds. I could have spent the entire day there!
I really enjoyed the Calliope. The pink on the throat was lovely, and so small compared to the Ruby. Also found the Jamaician Streamertail amazing.
