I need some help. I dont know what else to do. I cant get any of my Plumeria to bloom. I am feeding Nutrastar Plumeria Food....(Its a Texas Brand)... and BR-51...and still nothing. I have several that are only a year old so I understand them not blooming, however I have a few 2 year olds and an...Aztec Gold....that is at the very least 4 or 5 (I got it 3 years ago) years old. It bloomed that year and put on inflo's last year.... at the beginning of November just when I was putting it in the garage....It's little joke on me. Anyway as for this year...nothing....Am I just being to impatient ?
Cant get Plumeria's to Bloom
I would start by making sure that your plumies are getting full sun (six hours or more), and I would change the fertilizer that you are using. I would go out and buy a Bloombooster formula with a high middle number like 10-52-10. Schultz and Miracle Gro both make Bloombooster formulas. I would start fertilizing once a week until fall. It actually would have been better to start in the spring, but now is not too late. Plumerias are heavy feeders and need a regular feeding schedule to bloom well. If you do this, you may still get flowers this summer, and you will for sure get flowers next summer. Feel free to use supplements to this fertilizer as well. Spray 'N Grow and Superthrive are two supplements that you can use in addition to fertilizing with the Bloombooster.
Sometimes it takes a little maturity for a one-year-old or two-year-old plant to start blooming, but once it does, it usually will bloom every year after that.
Thanks for the advise Clare. I will let you know how they respond.
Thanks Again
Kathy
Thanks from me also. Mine didn't bloom last year and so far just leaves this year. I didn't know I was supposed to be fertilizing. I'll start today!
Here's a good link: http://www.plumeria101.com/fertilizer.html
Thanks for the link! Will be looking for some Peters today.
Do you think Lowe's or WalMart has the Peter's blossom booster?
I don't remember seeing it at walmart but for sure they have it at lowes and hd
Thanks, I'll check it out - I don't like to shop, but Lowes is the exception, I just love that place!
I repotted my one plumeria late spring last year and it didn't bloom until mid-November. This year, it's first flowers opened early this week. I imagine the plant spent most of its energy last summer sending out roots. Do plumerias bloom best when slightly potbound?
Hi Betty, I don't think so. They are actually trees and keeping them potbound will stunt their growth. They bloom best when given lots and lots of fertilizer on a regular basis:-)
Cool! Thanks Clair for the info, I didn't realize I needed to feed once a week, I have a rooted y cutting that's 8 or 9 months old, and 2 foot now, but i'm not fertilizing it like you said to, I'll start doing so tomorrow, bet it will grow fast by doing this
Hi Kathy, sometimes people are busy and can't do it once a week, but if you can do it once every two weeks or as often as possible, it will go a long way toward flowering. People often don't realize that plumerias are heavy feeders and need the food to bloom. If you use a fertilizer that has a high middle number -- like Bloombooster or Bloombuilder, which are something like 10-52-10 -- that formulation with encourage blooms more than growth. It is pretty late in the season now, but if you fertilize now and weekly until fall, I bet you will get blooms for sure next spring, and then you can start fertilizing again beginning in the spring.
I have some miracle grow bloombuster , will use it dillagently now . thanks for the advice.
kathy
Great! My pleasure:-) Hope you get lots of blooms. It is still possible for you to get blooms this season. Some people who get inflo's late in the summer or fall end up bringing their plants inside to bloom by a window for Thanksgiving/Christmas. Fingers and toes are crossed for you!
You know, you've mentioned inflo's, and I'm new to plumerias, this is my only one, don't even know the color, what is inflo's?
kathy
Oh ok, I figured it was something like that
