Elephant Ear, Taro, Dasheen, Eddo
Colocasia esculenta
They did poorly in a drier area last year, so this spring I put them by the condensation drip of my A/C. What a difference it made!

Wow....huge or what! It definitely looks like your really scared!
:) Donna
LOL The only thing scary in that pic is my hair! Me and the humidity DO NOT get along!
I thought I'd step behind them for scale, since sometimes you can't really tell how big something is. I'm 5' 2", so that can give you an idea of how large the leaves are. Right now, the leaves are more erect, and stand probably at 6' or more easily! (See in the background?)
Edited to say that the base of the largest one is about as big around as my arm at the bicep. I don't think I'll be trying to dig it up any time soon! LOL

Give it another year or few .... if it's getting enough humidity it'll get even bigger! :o)
That I don't doubt. High humidity is a constant here in my part of the state. I have a Xathosoma sagittifolium planted next to it on the other side of the A/C unit, and I'm expecting that one to get massive by next year. It's only about a third of the height of the EE's, but I know they can bigger than those. I'd like to get a photo of my husband standing under one of the leaves...he's 5' 9", and I think Xanthosomas grow up to 8-9 ft tall!

These look great! Would it be possible to get some of these? I live in Ruston, Louisiana. Carol
They're the ones you get at Walmart in the garden section that come in the big boxes in the spring. Mine have been slow to start since we've been behind on rain, so I don't have any offsets available at this time. They're kinda wimpy compared to last year. :-(
Whew!!! I have thought about buying these every time I see them but now that I see how big they get, I will have to make sure I have a place to put it. That plant is HUGE!! And it looks like it is trying to eat you!! LOL
