I just had a 25 pound bag arrive by UPS (It was the smallest I could find) and apparently it's really made for commercial applications as it only gives instructions for continuous injection and tanks. Anyone know how much per gallon is safe to use? This one is by Peters

Anyone else use Cal Mag 15-5-15 ?
Mary, I'd like to know where you ordered it - shipping is quite expensive and it would be great to compare sources for it and buy for the best price.
Sorry I don't know what the application rate is...
I use it. ..not called CalMag - but it'sJack's Professional 15-5-15 with calcium and micro nutrients. Got it at AM Leonards online. Here's the link:

Works great. I scoop it out with a 1/8 cup measuring cup and use that to a gallon of water and water my brugs. This bag is a 25lb bag and it cost me $8.50 to ship to CT.
I just guessed on amounts to use as the directions were, as you mentioned above, for industrial use.

I got mine here:

The shipping to Southern California was expensive. $18.50 by UPS. I guess your rate would depend on what UPS zone you were in.

What is CalMag and what is the use for it?...Judy
Mary, you can use it like any other fertilzer. I dissolved 30g in 10l of Water for old plants. I feed every third day.
I went to my garden center and they ordered calmag for me. It doesn`t hurt to ask. I did not have to pay for shipping.
Thanks Monica!
30 grams = 1 oz. = 2 tablespoons dry measurement
10L = 2.6 gallons

As a replacement for Cal/Mag...do you think I could use Crushed Coral for the calcium and epsom salt for the magnesium? Both are EASY to get here!!
Feed every third day :0. Uh oh... I'm a bad newbie... I've been feeding once a week even though I've been watering some 2x a day.... Guess what I'll be doing today :)
Calcium should be added only if the water used contains no or a low percentage of calcium. I dont know, how fast crushed Corals releases Calcium in the water. It takes 48hrs until very soft water is saturated.
We are pure rain water...and Calcium and Magnesium seem to bring great life to my brugs!
Then you have to add lime to your water like I have to.
I've heard that for 6 weeks after adding lime to the soil, the soil does not absorb nitrogen. Sounds kind of far fetched, but I thought I'd ask anyway since I need to add a little lime to my acidic soil.
Adding lime to your acid soil is a must unless you have planted Rhododendrons or others, which prefer acid soil.
According to the label 1 level teaspoon = 193.2 PPM N in one gallon of water. I would be using around a teaspoon and a half if I were you. I feed all my brugs continuously at around 300ppm N and they seem to be very happy. My 2 cents.

Monika, if I scratch the lime in the soil, will it help? My "outside" brugs are rained on every night so I can't control that watering...Only those in the GH or Shade House. I will start doing it today.
Thanks
I would pinch small holes in the soil around the trunk and fill the lime in there. You need for a 4 Gallon pot appr.30g of Lime. When lime is sprinkled on top of the surface of the soil, it tends to seal it up.
Thanks, Monica for the idea to punch holes around the roots....would you go out to the drip line, in the middle or closer to the trunk?
DH's "Witches' Brew" has all the good stuff in it: lime, cal, mag, chicken poop and the first time I just lay it on the surface and the lime sort of 'sealed' the soil...better to punch it in or work it in, I guess.
Pinch it in the middle.
Thanks, Monika...did them all today. Can't wait for it to rain and wash it down to their feet!!!
Carol
Guess I better go punch me some holes. I just scattered the lime on top of the soil. I do have lots of azaleas and rhododendrons so I have to be careful where I use it.
I've been hoping they'd start selling it around here. It sounds like a great product that apparently Lowes and Home Depot haven't caught on to.
It ended up being expensive with shipping ... but if you divide it by the number of $11.95 boxes I'd have to buy at Lowe's to make the same amount, it's not really expensive at all. It's just hard to choke up all that money at once. It's a mental thing.

I haven't been able to find the Jack's Professional 15-5-15 with calcium and micro nutrients around here either. So I started searching the net and came up with some Cal/Mag Plus. It is in liquid form and you add it to your fertilizer. It's cost is $17.99 shipping was $9.50. It works great. Here is the web link if any one is interested.

I was in Lowes over the past week-end and they had there Peters 20-20-20 in the tub for 99 cents. I got 6 tubs. Each tub has three or four pkgs. of contents. I usually buy the box that has 6 pkgs in it for $6.98. It was a close out special. I thought it was a pretty good price.

Any ag. supply place(Brewer Environmental International, for instance) has 50lbs bags of Epsom Salts and Gypsum (magnesium/calcium). They are usually VERY...um...cheap. How we mix it is kinda irrevalent because it is based on our soil analysis.....
By the way...great improvement/growth on my plants in just 2 days since I poked it in....we have had 1/2 rain which helps.
Aloha
