Depth for Waterlilies ?

Collins (90 min. dr, MS(Zone 8b)

I've planted my waterlilies about a foot deep, but could move them to about 2 1/2 feet deep water. Where should they be (I live in zone 8b). I don't want them to be too close so the roots freeze during the winter. Thanks,
Nancy

Hi Nancy. My hardy waterlilies are about 18" down. I could move them deeper for winter, but I don't. They stay right where they are, and they do just fine. ;o) I'm in zone 5. Jenny

I am in 8a and have 12 inches above them if they are hardy they will be fine. If they are tropical you will need to find someone on here who can tell you more!

I find tropicals do best in no more than 12" but some of my hardies are are 36" and do fine. However they are old lilies that have huge tubers. The less established the lily the more shallow the water needs to be.
