Any tips on growing Arborea

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

I've taken the leap to growing more difficult brugs. I just bought a 16" Arborea and now I just have keep it alive. I've heard this species likes to be kept drier than other brugs so I added sand and extra perlite to soil to help it drain well. Is this a fast growing species? I've heard it can be a hard one to get to bloom. Why is that? I'd appreciate any tips on growing this guy.

Emily I have 3 Arborea seedlings that I started the first of the year. In a little over 3 months they had buds on them and have been flowering ever since.
I find them easy to grow and great bloomers.
They bloomed much faster than any of my other Brug seedlings.
I have them in the garden with my other Brugs and they get no special care.
They are in a spot that gets morning sun but not the hot afternoon sun.
Good luck with yours and I hope you get lots of blooms.

Oh Emily, you should love this one. The scent is the best of all brugs I find. Just wait!! She has been very easy for me and always has a bloom on her right up to Christmas. She can take cooler weather and likes it too. I do not keep her dryer.

Her leaves are so nice too. All deep green, soft and fuzzy. She self pollinates so you will have lots of pods on her all the time which are very entertaining and add lots of interest. They are round little balls and so fuzzy. I am forever rubbing them as I walk by.

I have a huge bush that has put out a 7 foot sucker. I am aobut to clip it off and start a standard. What a thrill, a standard Arborea.

I hope you did get a real Arborea. Lots of them are called that in the stores (like Home Depot) but they are not true Arborea but a regular generic brug.

You will love this one!!

So, it wants to normally grow as a bush? I love mine...it's only 1' tall and blooms all the time!!

I really do not know, Carol. Mine was a piece above the Y, I assumed. It is a huge round ball. This is the first time it has suckered and it is a nice straight piece. I need to get it going. I can't wait to see it as a tree.

I do not often see big ones posted on here to know. In fact I do not remember any.

Well, mine was doing fine (seedling) until it got hot and humid. It has Y'd but the buds fall off. I brought it inside in the hopes that AC would make it happier, but so far it's looking pretty sad. Guess it doesn't like the southeast.

That is a shame Linda. I have heard it doesn't like the heat though is more forgiving than sanguineas. I hope it perks backup for you. You need to smell at least one flower!
