A new seedling blooms...

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

TA DAA! Today the first bud on a seedling I am growing out for a friend opened. This is a second year seedling that didn't not bloom for her last year and she sent me a couple cuttings to see if they would bloom for me. The cross was labeled Unknown X Pink Peach. I don't know who the hybridizer was - (if you are out there - please raise your hand) because the person my friend told me gave her the cuttings does not remember. This is the bloom as it it looked at 7:30 this morning. Now these cuttings were about the most vigorous of any I grew. Grew faster and looked better than any of the others despite repeated attacks during the winter from spider mites. Once I planted these outside in May they grew very fast. This is the first one of two to set bud and flower...

This is the way it looked when I got home at 8:00pm tonight...not quite open yet...

but such a pretty delicate pink!

of course I had to mess with it and pry it open for a look at the inside. It's one of those that is very shiny and waxy looking - I LOVE that!

This is the last pic I took so you can see it's size. I am anxious for it to open fully - tomorrow I guess -- so I can see if it will have recurl or not and if the color will darken or change anymore.

It really is exciting to know you are the first person to ever see the bloom on a particular plant! Even if it never turns out to be anything special to the brug world - it is special to me!

Hi, Julie and Sherry - thanks...she really is a "girlie girl" as Kell would say LOL

I'm impressed with what a dark pink she is for the first day. Yesterday when she was in the bud stage - this is what she looked like no sign of color at all. But by 7:30am she was bright pink! Don't know what tomorrow will bring...

And she is a girlie girl for sure, Diane! LOL. And look at her surroundings. She should be called a deadly damsel with all that incredible stone around.

Good job Diane, I like the curly edges and tendrils.

Okay, guys..tonight I bummed...

came home from work and waited patiently for evening so I could see the bloom open and ...nothing.....I mean NOTHING...it's just hanging there exactly like it was yesterday, fully out of the calx but making no attempt to open. sigh. Do you think I damaged it when I pried it open last night to take the picture above? There are about 8 more buds getting ready to open - 2 of them SHOULD open tomorrow. Is it possible it could be a dud that never opens it flowers?? has that ever happened to one of yours?

Diane, I think she will open - my Pink Favorite is a naughty tease!! She goes for 'days' in that, 'I swear I'm opening tomorrow' pose, only to open several days later. Boy, do I even know how you feel about the wait, but I bet you will be rewarded! Good Luck!!!!!!

first thing that came to mind on the 2nd shot -
James Bond-Octopussy

Those are so pretty!!
btw - I snapped off a wayward razzmatazz, cut into 3 sections and seeing what happens in a bubbler. crossing my fingers. :)

LOL..Blaine - she sure looks like she has potential..but I'm getting more concerned. Her first bloom (above) never opened - it just stayed the way it looks in the 1st picture for 3 days then shriveled up. The second bloom was fully out of the calx last night and I watched and watched -- nope -- never opened. If it does not open tonight - then I will start to think there is something genetically wrong that the blooms won't open. I thought maybe I damaged the first bloom by prying it open to take the pic above, so this second bloom I was VERY careful not to even breath on it...but it doesn't seem to have made a difference. We'll see tonight.

Thanks for trying with Razzmatazz...I've got my fingers crossed :-)

Diane
