Thank you Brinda! I wondered if anyone else thought these looked nice. I am so proud that I was finally able to grow some from the bulbs!

It feels like those monkeys take FOREVER to get above ground, doesn't it?!?!?! I've had these off and on for years and each and every year I find myself discouraged by the amount of time it takes for them to come up. I walk through the shade garden enjoying the ferns going nuts, the rhodos and azaleas blooming like fiends, the lily of the valley plants popping up everywhere ... and there I stoop, pushing mulch bark around hoping for signs of these happy, colorful little aroids with continued sighs of frustration.

I am not a patient man.

This year, though, we got a lot of a warm soil plants (caladiums, alocasia, xanthosoma, cannas, etc.) started inside in pots with some floor heating. The wife was not too enthused about the floor space close to every avilable window being filled with el cheapo nursury pots, but it paid off nice in the end!

Mighty nice looking collection of caladiums you got there, ma'am! :o)

Why thank you Bog!! And nice to meet you! I know what you mean about the floor space...lol. Hubby has to sorta "sidle"?..is that a word??? thru the house in the winter!!
I have all these tropical plants that come in..brugs, bananas, etc. I keep telling him I need a greenhouse!!!
And ya know...I don't know why..but I never thought to start cannas inside!!

They are lovely. I just love the white ones. Seems like they get bigger than the others.

Oh, heck yeah, you gotsta start the cannas in the house if you're digging them up the autumn before! My Ambasador and President cannas are already 5 and 6 feet tall! I bought a so-called "giant" hybrid at a local nursury here 2 months ago. It was in a 5 gal pot and it's still struggling to keep pace with them.

We need to find a way to convince the spousal units that our need for a greenhouse is not a whimsical one! lol

Thank you Roz! I like the white too. I wonder why they get bigger than the others??? But I agree..they do.
Well Bog...let me know if you come up with an idea on the convincing...LOL!
I saved up for one...and still haven't convinced him!!
