Look at this poor Super Nova. First it got invaded by earwigs. Then, it got super hot (it said it was 99 degrees downtown about an hour ago).
I hadn't watered today, but DO water them everyday. I went to pick it up and put it on a dolly to get it out of the hot sun and it had dried out so bad it was light as a feather, so I just very easily carried it. I put it in some shade and gave it LOTS of water. This pic was taken after the watering, and it was already starting to perk up. I'll get another pic of it later. I thought for sure I'd killed it, it was so sad.
And there's always a problem one
Goodness, that plant looks like I feel! 3 days of heat and humidity have got me wilted too. Humidity?! How'd we get humidity?! Doesn't the weather man know we're Southern California?! We're not supposed to have this kind of humidity. Don't know how the Southern girls stand this and still sound so sweet and look cool as a cucumber. Must be genetics.
Mary
lol Mary!
It's quite dry here, so when it's around 100 degrees here, it doesn't feel like 100 degrees does down in the Southeast or Midwest. Occasionally we get humid days and they ARE miserable - especially when you aren't used to it.
I had Super Nova last year, and it wilted here also, with 90 degree weather, not even our hottest, with 12% humidity. This one did not come in last fall.
She's in a shadier spot now. Tomorrow I will try to find a better spot for her, where she gets mostly morning sun and not all this hot afternoon sun. I'd had her up against west side of the house and we have a rock foundation. Russ thinks it was probably 110 degrees in that spot this afternoon. My Isabella X seedlings just loved it there last year. Go figure.
Yeah, but Karrie, if I had that precious nasturtium, it would perk me up a whole lot!!! They just won't grow here, but I LOVE them...
Poor brug!! I wilt too in the heat. I can't take it!! Thank goodness we have no humidity here.
Super Nova is doing much much better. Completely came back - now if it just didn't have so many chewed leaves........ I'll get a pic later when we get the camera out for the garden pic contest.
Just read your message......my Brug must have earwigs also, I had to move mine under the patio, it was too hot here in Southern AZ. I have one bud that will be blooming over the weekend. Still don't know what kind I have....it's a pale yellow.
Taking care of these Brugs is like taking care of children!
Joni
boy do you have that right!
I've had 11 children here this week, 7 of the kid are my grands and, the others their pals, and my brugs are much more difficult to tend than all those kids put together and they are ages 7 -14, girls and boys - not a single kid scorched, or wilted, or melted or curled and got spots or had cats or dropped leaves or complained about the food and, or water. Who knew?? And, the answer is yes, brugs are like taking care of children, but often even more demanding, whew!!
they are like taking care of constant crying infants - at times.
It's funny - I have a couple that are happy as a clam, and others that aren't quite so grumpy, but there always seems to be one or two that are harder to figure out. Their moods - shade, sun, a little of both, drag me around to make me happy, it doesn't matter that it hurts your back, etc......... If they could only grow up to take care of me like my kids will, lol!
