Planting hibiscus from seeds

West Portsmouth, OH(Zone 6a)

I have tropical hibiscus Rosa-Sinesis that I keep in a pot outside and have been collecting the seeds of the three different colors as they have matured. Can I plant them now so I can grow them in pots in my house?

Polly,

Since I live in Ft Lauderdale, I can plant seeds anytime I like. Seems to me, if you are growing them in pots inside the house, there should be no reason you can't plant them.

Since it is still warm outside where you are, conditions should be good to do it outside for now, as long as you protect them from direct sun and weather, like a covered patio. I do mine there until they get strong enough to put the pots under the sky.

I am just a simple relatively new gardener and I don't do much fancy stuff. I'm sure you will have someone come here and give you additional valuable information.

Thanks, Molly. I think I'll try a few now and a few later, then. I have quite a bunch now. I didn't mark which colors were which, and that was really careless on my part, so It'll be a surprise when they finally grow up and bloom for me.
