Hello! This is Tara from Seward, Alaska.
I just joined Dave's Garden after searching for an answer to why my nasturtium leaves are turning yellow and finding a bevvy of Alaska gardening information at my fingertips. Still not sure why the leaves keep yellowing (the answers were about everything you could think of), but definitely sure that I'll be spending too much time online here during the dark winters.
Looking forwarding to chatting with all of you!
Tara
p.s. to the Seward crowd. I've only lived in Seward 2 years -- a year before that in Fairbanks, so I am still getting to know folks in town and trying to figure out how to keep up with the Alaska summer growing rates. We live in Old Mill Subdivision way in the back by Treehouse B&B (some know the house as "Troutman's house"). Hope to see your gardens soon!

Tara Hi welcome.. you'll find lots info. and help.. enjoy. Twyla
Welcome Tara from here in Frederick, Md. Glad you're here :)
hello from upstate new york. funny, but just yesterday was looking at a show on tv about alaska. sure was pretty.
Hi Tara - welcome to davesgarden!
Hi, Tara! We have at least three members from Seward, Alaska now! Hope the rest come by to give you a 'howdy'. Don't feel bad about the nasturtium leaves... mine do it, too! I think there is a disease that is complicated by our goofy weather. I'll look around for more info.
If you haven't already stopped by my little nursery business, come on by. You can email me for directions by clicking on my name here. I'll give you a free 'Welcome to Dave's' plant!
Welcome, TAra...how lucky you are to be close enough to go and meet Weezingreens!! Don't get her started though...she can be so funny that you will split your sides laughing. Jo
Hi, Tara - Welcome!
Hi Tara,
Welcome to our ever-growing group. We fairly often have alaskans popping in to our Canadian gardening so come on over to visit sometime. Spent lots of time in FAI too.

Wow -- thanks for all of the warm welcome. Yes, I am very lucky to have Weezingreens just down the road a few miles. I'll be stopping by soon for my plant...and maybe some other fun things. Weezingreens -- when are you open these days?
And I will definitely check out Canadian gardening! Great idea.
Tara
Tara, I'm here most of the time. I do some housekeeping for Camelot Cottages down the road on Monday & Tuesday mornings, and once in awhile I venture out for Wednesday Senior shopping... I lead an exciting life! If you get here before 9am, I may wait on you in my nightgown, and if you come over after 7pm, you may find me dozing in my recliner. Otherwise, I'm at your disposal! LOL!
Hi Tara and welcome to Dave's. We're all jealous that you can grow Meconopsis so whenever you see something that you can't grow just think Meconopsis!
Long ago and far away,-- I built a Church in Palmer and one in Eagle River, Welcome to Daves, I have fun here and hope you will too, --Michael
Hi Tara,
Welcome to Dave's Garden. I'm a bit behind having just come off the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival - 120 concerts in 15 days. I managed to attend or volunteer at 28, but my DG time suffered. ;-)
My sister lives in Palmer; so we've gotten to that part of AK a few times. Also drove the Highway in 1980 (I think).
The suggestion to check the Canadian forum was a good one. Also the one on cool weather gardening. Hope you enjoy it here.

Hi Tara,
Carol Eads here. First time I've seen you post. I'm in the book, so give me a call, I have a little compost left. (I'm the compost Queen here in Seward, live in Eadsville (just off of Nash Road, first left across the RR tracks where the car is on top the tree, on the right before the bridge, I'm the only one with stucco and an old picket fence and greenhouse).
I'd be glad to give you a tour and show you my alpines and rock garden plants and hyper tufa planters I've made. I'll try to find you out in Old Mill, you must be past Judy Rough's and I'll just start looking from there... Carol
Yep Carol:
Go past Judy's to the end of the road, turn left . 2nd or 3rd drive on the left.
2 car garage on the north side stairs to the right , day-light basement under main floor, Toyo stove exhaust on south side of basement.......Dont you love small towns....Dennis
P.S. Shes got a Jen-air broiler in the kitchen.....D
Now that's a small town ;-) Probably should say day-light basement where we'll leave the window open if you need to get in to work on the Toyo stove, right!?! We're the first house on the left once you make the left hand turn at Al and Sheila's Treehouse B&B.
The Toyo hasn't broken down since we moved in, and we're working on getting radiant heat installed. It's been almost 3 years and we have tubing through much of the house, but no heat yet.
I may just have to come plant shopping tomorrow after rowing practice!
Tara
