Maya Report....

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

I couldn't stand it....can't stand it...she has a Y AND little bitty buds. Oh, be still my heart.... and her little pardner, the green cutting that Carol didn't know how to grow...is to her right. Still looks like the Big Mexican and the Chihuahua.... Maya is now about 4.5' tall...I am cutting off the 2nd stalk and planting it next to the mother....hopefully it will become taller.

Here is the B. snowbank from ebay...she has multiple stalks and is lighting up an otherwise dark part of the road.

Swweeeeet!
You know Carol, when I took out one of the stalks on the Maya I have in ground, it actually had a little growth spurt. There's still 3 stalks I think (she soooo wants to be a bush) but it's now a good 4' and forking around but I don't think I have buds yet.

I am afraid to let the two stems grow because of the weight of the leaves....on another brug they split down the joining place of the stems. :>)

Beautiful, Carol :):):)

Brugs sure like living the good life in Hawaii. That little one is just too cute.

Do your inner skirts on your Cream sickle drop? I am dying to see if she gets orange for you. I just can't tell what thing in the environment triggers it. Sometimes mine are so orange and other times not. It is not heat, I do not think.

Hi kell...

The last flush produced orange inner skirts...this one hasn't, so far.

My HG is Ying too...is it she Ys but doesn't flower or that she....? We have cool nights, maybe that will help.

HG, Ys and will bud but then it drops them!!! Makes me nuts. And everyone else too. I sure hope you get good blooms so we can see HG in its glory. I love that flower. A tree in bloom would be too much for my heart.

heh, heh... I think my HG in the compost pile is gettin' it's Y on. I'm taking a 6pack around back and having a Come-to-Jesus meeting with him and dump buddy Dr. Seuss.

Carol, Your brugs all look so big and healthy. They must like that volcanic soil and your diligent waterings and care. What a paradise you have created. I'm excited to see how Maya blooms for you.

Living on a 300 year old lava flow...we MAKE holes where we can and fill them with cinders, some organic matter and mulch from the city landfill GreenWaste program all ground up (in the bottom of the hole) and plant everything in it! With sometimes 1" of rain every night drainage is key!!! And I fertilize alot with whatever I have. Currently using a 21-9-11. During droughts (sometimes no rain for weeks with the trades die) it is a killer to carry water out to them...but with the organic matter in the bottom of the hole they don't dry out too much!

I have taken digging bars and thudded the ground until there is a "give" (a crack in the lava or something similar) and stuck a cutting in there.

I just think Maya is heavenly!!!

You are leading the pack! Buds already, yet!!!!!
Great job, Aloha.
