I have a couple hibiscus that I've been bringing indoors each winter. One is like a small tree, and it's getting pretty cumbersome. Has anyone had success planting them permanently outside in the upper Midwest (IL/WI)?

Anyone in upper Midwest planting outside?
If we're talking about the tropical hibiscus, rosa-sinensis, planting them outside permanently is a really bad idea. They are only hardy to zone 10. Even a light frost does serious damage to them, and freezing is a killer.
They can be cut back really hard in the fall when you bring them inside. I do it every year and it makes them a lot more managable in the house. They always grow plenty of new leaves and branches for the next spring.
