I need some ROSE help

Mt. Pleasant, MI(Zone 5a)

This is only my second year with roses. If my mother's name wasn't Rosemary, I wouldn't have ANY! (I'm afraid of them) I had a climber planted in the wrong spot last year and was going to move it this year but didn't get to it. I cut it back in the fall but only 1 stem came back this spring. It's about 7" tall with no roses. Just straight up on the trellis. HELP! I never have good luck with them. I'm ready to go out and pull up all the roses in my new ROSE-mary garden. (why couldn't my mothers name have been WEED?

I heard you should not prune a climber until after it is well established, at least 2-3 years after you plant it. Then only trim in the spring the stuff that is needed like dead canes that show no new growth. Make sure it gets plenty of sun.
Since your mothers name is Rosemary why not plant some rosemary (the herb) and dedicate it to your mom? How could she complain?

What rose are you talking about? Maybe that would help.

Good luck Jacklynn, I'm so busy battling Japanese beetles I could scream.

Jacklynn,

I wish I could help. I manage to kill all of the roses I try. My climber (Jospeh's Coat) didn't make it.

No more japanese beetles here, purpleice. I don't know why, but you can have them.

Gee, thank's Nick. The reason why they're HERE is because they're not THERE!
Anybody want some Japanese beetles, served up fresh everyday?

Since I already pruned it....... did I ruin it? Should I just scrap it?
