Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

That's beautiful! I can't seem to find any information on the internet about "milky way". It looks like a Colocasia, but nada. Does this plant go by a different name?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Emily, it's a new one. I think Winterberry Farms had it.
Kyle, we'll meet you there, you can help us pick out the good stuff!

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Come on everybody! I do love company. Seriously, we need to talk about a gathering. Donna, Janet, Ely, Jen - what does your summer look like? Maybe we can plan something when New Orleans has their plant sale so everybody can get in on the goodies in New Orleans. I went with Jill, daughter in law and I bought every ginger I could get my hands on. Now I 'm going to drive Ely crazy asking questions about how to grow them!

Mystic, my milky way does not look anythjng like this one until it gets some sze. The varigation seems to come out more when it is older. It was slow to take off, like everything in that bed, but now it is looking like I like.

Emily, I am not sure about the name, except Milky Way. I think Hummernut, or maybe Suzie, gave this to me last year. It was new to me, too.

LOL yes, I am heading that way this week then seeing Trish in crestview this weekend.... Roz do you still have some of those common nanars? I need a few if you do... my summer is open on the weekends... I am on vacation this week....I am behind on D-mail and will get with you shortly....

Larry, I have lots and lots of really big nanas in pots. You are welcome to as many as you want. I like to use them to shade the ele ears.

Leesburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Ely ... you're WAY behind on your dMail.

I am still working on what I got sunday...LOL maybe tonight.... =)

Roz that's a beauty!

Peggy like you mine hasn't thrown any white.

Did yours by any chance come from the Louisville area?

Ric

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Thanks Roz then I still have hope. Ric mine came from the same place as yours a dear friend.

Foley, AL

no white what so ever? has it put up any pups?

ely

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Mine has never shown any white and pups well.

I had trouble w/ 'Nancy's Revenge' also.
W such a short growing season here I just don't think I'm getting enough maturity.
Ric

That is something I have been wondering about. Barb Ward said that her Nancy does not have the coloration like mine, and I potted a var. one that she gave me and there is not color on it at all now, even though it had a little bit on it when it was small. What are we doing to make color on these var. ones, or what are we not doing to not get color? Think I will take the no color one out of the pot and put it next to one with lots of color to see if it has something to do with the soil or fertilizer.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

That would be appreciated Roz.
We do great w/ the Giants, Blacks, Violet stems and on our 'Big Dipper's we have traded or given away dozens and dozens.
For some reason though the variegated ones......

Ric

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Don't use too much nitrogen on variegated plants or they will have more green.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

I've backed off on the N. Thanks.
How about Sun?
Less or more than the B Magics?

Glad to see you're OK CL!

Ric

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I'm trying to remember if the book said more sun makes the variegation stronger, or if less sun! I have Milky Way in half a day of sun(no hot afternoon sun), in a bed ammended with rabbit manure and peat moss and mulched with grass clippings. It has a good amount of white.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

So that would be high N and probably acid soil or are you extremely alk too start w/.
Because you're so far South a 1/2 day of your sun would be about a full day here.

Hmmmmm.....

Ric

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

We are alkaline, and rabbit manure doesn't have a lot of nitrogen, not like commercial fertilizers. I add manure in the spring, to help build the soil.
