Purpose of Anthers???

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Someone sent me some pollen and included the anthers. Since I am new to pollinating, could someone tell me what the purpose of including the anthers is? Does it help preserve the pollen maybe?

When I started, Susie taught me to use a paint brush and clean off the pollen onto a piece of wax paper. I would do this. Then one day I did not have the time, so I just stuck the anthers in the mini wax paper baggie. And I never went back! LOL. Susie is a professional and I am a lazy amateur!!

Other than that , I have no clue Karrie,

hmmm - ok. that makes sense - there is pollen on the anthers as well, that are in the little bag. I did a couple of crosses yesterday on the creamsickle and still have more left to try on others, when they bloom.

Creamsickle is on my hot brug list for pollinating, Karrie. I got that beautiful double apricot from her. You go, girl!

I'm trying for a double pink like you recently posted. WHO knows! Would sure be nice to have something like that to grace my gardens!

Pink may take 2 generations, but you never know!! She made a good double too Karrie, a big, broadbased one. I will sure hope for you.

When you say two generations, do you mean getting a cutting of the first seedling or re-pollinating the seedling? I'm thinking the latter - gosh I can be so dumb!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

yes, I mean pollinating the seedling you get again with pink pollen. I only say that based on her tendency to be orange. So it is easier to get an orange baby from her. But I have no clue whom Creamsickle has as parents. If she has a pink gene, you could luck out. Of course I have no real clue really of what I am talking about. LOL This is how I pollinate. With a hope and a few prayers mostly. LOL

No parents are listed for Creamsickle in the info gallery I went to. It only says it was bred by Native Habitat. Darn! Enquiring minds would like to know it's color background. The bee's must have been up to no good with its Mom.
