We raise redbone coonhounds. This happened once before a few years ago with a diff mother. We and the vet felt the pup had distemper, though he never did the actual testing to see if he had it. He had the convulsions, throwing up every time he ate. running around in circles like he was chasing his tail. Loosing his balance. Etc...
We had to have him put to sleep after about a month of constant nursing and no getting better.
Well, We have another pup now, 5 weeks old female . She was fine yesterday, We bring the pups out of the pen everyday and feed them twice a day and play with them. So we notice anything that's wrong. And like I said she ate yesterday was playful too, But today I took them all out of the pen to show them to some children, and she tried to throw up, dry heaves. Immediately I took her inside and gave her a parvo/distemper seven way shot. I thought I might catch her early enough fo r it to do some good. Now < im thinking I did a bad thing. Vet says it could make her worse, then she/he said that the shot won't take affect for l0 days anyway. If this is distemper, I know it just started today. I dred so terribly having to have her go through this. She's going to the vet tomorrow morning to see if it might be something else. But the throwing up was the only sign so far, nothing else. She could be just hot. It is like 95 today, their inside their houses, cement floor with a fan on high, they stay cool because of the floor. but her body felt hot, her nose was cold. She won't eat /drink gatorade or water.
Have you been through this before, if so, what did you do for your pup. Oh yes, the parents have been vacinated on a yearly basis. and her brothers are all just fine happy, and hungry, and their also alot bigger than she is.
I've made her some hamburger and scrambled eggs , she won't have any of it. I know she's sick. She would normally fight over it.
