look at this

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

this is my moms brug. Kyle sent me a cutting for her almost 2 years ago. it didnt bloom last year but this year look at this flower. i went and measured the thing. the flower was 15 or 16 and from plant to bottom of flower was 24 inches. i dont know how to actually measure the flowers so i took a pic.

i didnt pick up the flower as scared to break it and wont due to the fact she has very limited space and this is in a pot and almost to the ground.

the tag said Kyles pink or thats what i wrote so thats what we have called it.

you should see my mom and the neighbors who have been watching this plant. too cute. four ladies out there every day looking at it. then the day before my mom calls me all excited and frantic its openning. so yesterday i looked at this plant and it was still a greenish color and today here it is. my mom and her friends are strutting around like peacocks over this flower.

she babies it and thats the truth!!!!! its got other buds on it too so waiting to see if they are all this long. i just got off the phone with her and she says her other friends are coming over to see it. my moms house is gonna be full of people today. hehe

I have never seen a peduncle like that. Just amazing. Can you imagine a full tree of them? What an incredible sight that would be.

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Is that the stem?? Kell?

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

Thats great for your Mother and her friends.. what a joy for them all.. lovely...

That is a whopper Marie. Your Mom must be so happy as we all are. Can't wait to see it bloom.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Here is a pic I stole that jeanne had posted here a few years back. She made it, Julie. It taught me the parts of the flower.

Peduncle is the stem that holds the flower. In this case it is an giraffe peduncle. LOL I am amazed every time I look at it. I can see that flower swaying in the breeze. A whole tree of them would be mesmerizing.

all i know is its huge and we have been holding our breaths to see it bloom.

the storms we have been having in the evening have scared me and been waiting for her to call to say it fell off.

but its there. but i see storms coming in now so hopefully it will last till tommorow when it opens fully.

but if it doesnt then at least she was happy and we got a pic of it this morning.

i couldnt believe the stem( Peduncle )either. it just kept growing and growing. fert 3 x a week and lots of water and talking to every day.

well better get off for awhile its thundering and i dont like being on in the rain.

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

lol that was my guess actually...I knew all the other parts of the brug but never use the part of the plant in the description ...peduncle. It sure is long isn't it wow!

Good grief! I really need to proof-read LOL...

Thanks for posting the diagram, I have it saved. That was a great diagram to have, thanks Jeanne!

they are too cute at times. as you can see there has been a catapiller eating on the leaves.

they called me thursday or friday about this. now i aint one to pick bugs or anything like this off plants. dh s job. but hubby is out of town so she calls me and i tell her to pick it off.

my friend who lives down the road from her called me and said i needed to see this. well if you know me now i live in jackson which is about 15-30 minutes away from my mom.

so i get in the car expecting to go see this big catapiller she had done got off her brug.

i get there about 20 minutes later and their they are. in the yard around this plant with thongs( the things you get out spagetti with) in their hands. and on the porch is a coffee can for the catapiller.

i couldnt get out my suv for laughing so hard. my mom is 58 and the others are around her age.

they are surrounding this plant on all sides. my friend tells me they havent found anything yet. i try to stop laughing as its comical. by this time the post man comes by and a few other on lookers. sadie finally finds the cat. she whisks it up with the thongs and i swear it was like a trophy.

felt sorry for the critter. in the can it went. now my daughter is an animal lover so she couldnt let the ladies kill it and took it down the street.

never a dull day at my mom's house.

all these ladies work at a local walmart together . i try to avoid walmart when they are alll there at once. wonder how they get any work done??? hehe

Kell, that's my picture of Ernestine but someone else put all the flower parts on it. It may have been Susie, I'm not sure.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Jeanne. You know I do not always have a full deck going anymore. Are you trying to make me nuttier?? When I posted the same photo on another thread a few weeks ago crediting Sue, I thought you told me it was yours not Sue's. So I changed it on the thread and also changed it in my brain. My brain can only take 1 change and record it. OH Jeanne, I am so confused. I hope I have not moved on to hallucinating. LOL

Kell, sorry to confuse you more. It's my photo, I took that picture of Ernestine in my garden. It probably was Sue that added to lettering to it. Does that make it any easier for you? I can't take credit for the lettering, just the photo. LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Maybe I will just stop using the photo. LOL. Good morning Jeanne!!

I had no idea how many different kinds of brugs Kyle Courtney has hybridized. Wow! I have at least 3 of his hybrids.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

If I'm not mistaken, it was hybridized by Eric and named after his son Kyle.

Kell, you caught it from me, I used to confuse Liz and Jeanne all the time!
