Sports - what to do with them?

RICHMOND, VA(Zone 7b)

I probably have half dozen sports up to four ft or so; after pruning them, should I stick them in the compost pile to root, throw them away, or what? My GH is much too hot for use, now, and I'm not set up for cuttings yet in this heat. What do you all do?

Do you mean sideshoots? Sports are a branch or side shoot that is different from the mother plant. If you mean normal side shoots, they can be rooted as spares or give aways, or composted, as you like. I do a bit of both, depending on the plant. For instance, I don't throw out mountain magic sideshoots, but Insig pink extras go into the pile.

sorry - I do mean sideshoots - I hate to throw them away!

Polly,

Why not offer them to one person, maybe a contest? Pick a number between 1 - 100 send someone you trust an email telling them the # then whomever guesses correctly you'll send the sideshoots to them.

or

Just pick someone that you think will appreciate it and ask them if they want them

or

offer to trade with someone.

Whichever way you will make someone very happy.

Some nice comments, Judy, and I am prepared to ship them to one person.
The shoots are: Adora,Eventide, Vers orange, Rosamond, HG and Pink Beauty.
(Personally, I'd like a plant or cutting from several doubles, )
If anyone has any to trade, wonderful - let me know.
Otherwise, we'll have a contest starting tomorrow.

Polly,

You are truly a wonderful person.

Polly do you have a pic of your vers. orange? I have an orange and can't figure out if it's versi orange or logee's orange. I know I had both at one time.

Vers orange hangs straight down, with long stems, and very large blooms. She has a very nice fragrance.
I am expecting a new flush shortly.
