Cut flowers

Long Beach, CA

Do any of you ever cut these flowers off & take them in the house? If so, how do you keep them (vase, bowl of water, etc??) and how long do they last as a cut flower?
I know these questions must have been asked before...but I couldn't find it.

Interesting question, I haven't ever cut one off. I have cut off a spent flower which immediately turns even floppier than on the plant. I would imagine that these wouldn't last 5 minutes once cut. If I don't feel like sitting outside...then I bring the plant indoors! I'd never cut one off. But I don't know what everyone else does. :)

Hi,
I had a beautiful flower last Oct. that I cut off to enter in the NC State Fair. Everyone commented on how incredible it looked, but it did not last long enough to be judged which was about 4 hours. I don't think they last long at all after they are cut--even if they are hardened. I had plenty of stem on the cutting and was kind of hoping on getting it back so I could start another plant from it That was the only one entered, but still didn't place I probably should have entered the plant instead because that was the only epi entered. It was the first time I really cut a bloom. Has anyone had better luck keeping their blooms?

I've wondered about this. When I visited Epis by Pat, she had several sitting in water outside on the patio! She also said she brings some favorites into the house when they bloom. I didn't think at the time to ask her how long they lasted.
