http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/368/index.html - Glossy Abelia
I just took these cuttings today (July 16th). They were trimmings from a hedge. The are un-rooted, I have been keeping them moist in a barrel and have been misting them so they will not dry out. They will need to be shipped pretty soon I assume to keep them alive.
This will be my first trade if anybody is interested. I have a 20 gallon barrel full of these cuttings like in the image. I am really interested in Japanese Maple Seeds, Colorado Blue Spruce Seeds, Hydraenga Cuttings, Red Yucca Seeds but I will trade for nearly anything. I am new to gardening and am really just looking to get a collection of all kinds of different plants.
Thanks,
Jared
Glossy Abelia - Unrooted Cuttings
Hi Jared,
Welcome! You will meet a lot of wonderful people here and will love all of the diversity in the plants offered! I would like some of your cuttings. I have Japanese Maple seeds. I also may have some Crepe Myrtle seedlings, if not I have seed for these as well. They are the Mauve/pink color. Let me know.
Janet
Yes, I have found this site to be very helpful and the people are very friendly.
That would be awesome to trade. I'll trade for whatever your willing to trade for. The seeds or seedlings. How many cuttings would you like?
I guess about a dozen cuttings...hoepfully they will root easily, but you never know. I will check through my seeds, I am sure I have lots I can send you in return.
Thanks,
Janet
Alright, That sounds good. I hope they will root well also. I will throw in more than that to give you a better chance of success. I have so many of them.
Is your address in the Address Exchange still the same?
I can send you some Hydrangea cuttings. I have Blue Billow, Nikko Blue, and Merrit.
Will the Abelia just root on its own in water?
I would love some Nikko Blue cuttings.
To be honest, I am not sure if the Abelia will root in water. I searched through a lot of sites and have not been able to find anything about rooting them in water. I think they may require a rooting hormone and being put in soil. Just let me know. Thanks :D
Looking at the plant base info it should root pretty easily...I will see what else I can find.
I'm going to try my hand at getting them rooted myself. Just let me know if your ready to make the trade and I will send them out.
Thanks,
Jared
Yes, I am ready whenever you are. I should be able to get my part out of here either tomorrow or Tuesday, depending on how early the post runs. It is really funny, I love these plants, we always had them when I was young and I have never bought or planted one.
Janet
Awesome! I will send you some cutting tomorrow. Is your address listed in the directory the same as your current address? That will be fine, just take your time.
I really like these bushes also. They have a very nice scent to them and also make a really nice hedge. I'm going to try and root a couple of the cuttings myself.
Jared, I have so many plates spinning right now, I think I'd better wait. Can you keep us posted on how they root for you? Maybe we can trade rooted cuttings later on. I'll get some Nikko started. Thank you for your offer.
Rachael,
I completely understand. I will make sure to let you know how they root. That sounds like a deal to me. Thanks!
I will be getting your seeds together this week. I will let you know when I send them out. Thanks.
JanetS
Janet, I shipped your cuttings out today. Check your e-mail for tracking information.
That sounds good about the seeds. Just take your time, i'm not in any rush. Just getting my collection going :D.
Did you get your seeds yet? LMK
JanetS
Hey Janet,
I haven't got them yet. I bet they show up here on Monday though. Are you having any luck with your cuttings?
Jared
I am getting ready to plant these tomorrow. I have had them soaking in some root booster I use since I haven't been here to take care of them. Thanks again and let me know.
Hey Janet,
I got the seeds today. Thanks very much! You gave me a large amount of seed and a lot of neat plants. My question about the Japanese Maple seeds is do they need any kind of stratification?
Jared
Not as far as I know...I think if you will just place them in a damp rooting medium they will sprout...try a few in different methods and see what works best for you..good luck! You are very welcomed!
Janet
