I think that's new growth coming in there, like 5 or 6 new stems coming up all in the very same area. Looks kind of strange though. It's not a real good picture, I'll have to go see if I can get another close up shot.

Unusual marrebeck
I had that on a plant last year and was told to remove it because it would never do anything. I did remove it. The second time it came back, I left it to see what it would do and eventually, it died off on its own.
Hum! well, it's not big enough (that growth in the center) to do anything abou t yet. did you remove all the other suckers coming up like there are in this pot, there's already 4 or 5 of them
The ones that grow normally, you don't have to remove until they are ready to use or unless you just want to get rid of them.
Brugie, are you saying that suckers won't produce flowers? I'm not sure I quite understand. should all brugs that have suckers on them be removed or they'll die off anyways? I have qutie a few brugs with two tall stems or rather branches, or what ever you want to call them, their in the same pot, I call them suckers, that grow up, y off and produce flowers just like the original cutting that got stuck into the ground.
I liken those suckers to tomatoes. Some people automtically remove them when they come on. I don't know why because they produce as much as any other part of the plant.

LOL, they do that for a reason, I forget, I only remove the suckers on the maters to get new plants LOL.

I was talking about the little clusters of stuff in the middle. That usually won't grow up to be anything. The ones that are a few inches tall are the basal shoots that generally will make a nice tree. Those you let get tall enough that the wood is beginning to harden and you can cut them off to make wonderful new plants.
Ok, I get it now LOL. Thanks.
If let to grow, how large will the basal shoots grow to be? I have one in a CG that's already 14" tall and looks like it might be getting ready to form the first "Y". Other than the top inch, it's bone straight.
If it is a true basal, it will get quite tall. They make good trees. It probably depends on the kind of plant you have growing whether they will be 4, 5, 6, or more feet tall when grown. Some could possibly be shorter, like Versicolors. I'd say give one a try and see what you get. You might like the tall and straight look.
The tall straight ones are my favorite, the flowers are up where you can see them and you can underplant with shorter 'stuff'.
