One problem after another

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Well, I guess this is what I get for keeping plants inside the greenhouse this summer. Snails, cats, scale, white flies And Now , Look at the mold on the leaves of the plants. Brugs, Scented geraniums, and a few other things. I know the dampness has every thing to do with it. It's been raining quite often for the last week or two. And I haven't gotten my husband to hang the fan at the other end of the greenhouse yet. I do have one at one end blowing out. I was going to put another at the other end blowing in. We just haven't had a chance to do it yet.

Is this considered a fungus? I know having them outside would be better for them. I do have several brugs outside, and they don'thave themold growing on the leaves. The taller brugs have the mold growing on the leaves, it does wash off too. Any ideas how to get the mold off the leaves, or just let them fall off, cause the ones that get mold on them eventually fall off. My husband is going to hang the fan today. So that will help bring in air better. I don't have alot of partely shady spots to put the brugs at. Mostly l00% full sun and that turns their leaves yellow really bad. So I thought growing them in the greenhouse would give them some shade, and it has helped with their yellow leaves. Their all green now, And moldy LOL. Well, not all but the taller ones are. I've had one trouble after the other this spring and summer in the greenhouse and really have to keep on top of it to keep it controlled. Sometimes I just don't know if it's worth it or not. Having all the pretties , you know.

I've washed some of the mold off this leaf as you can tell in the picture.

It looks nasty. I have never had to deal with something like that. I hope that the fans will help keep this from attacking your plants in the future. How to get rid of it.....I would probably use a fungicide, but if that didn't work...I'd be up a creek.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL, Yeah, I've had my share of nasties this year. Can't believe this one though. guess Ineed to go look for a fungicide when I go get the slug bait LOL

Oh Kathy, it all sounds so trying. You must be about to scream. My nonheated hoophouse stays so wet in the winter, I can get into trouble. I buy that lawn fungicide called Immunox. I stand at the door and let it rip. Then close it up and run. Good luck.

Kathy,

Bless your heart, I know exactly how you feel. At time I'm so disgusted with trying to have these beauties, then one will bloom and I'm in love all over again.

I'm glad you posted this thread, I noticed a couple of little spots on the underside of one of mine which is out in the yard under an oak tree .... we've just had too much rain.

It seems Mother Nature is giving a helping hand by watering the plants, then I'm asking her not to water so much. I feel like I have been transplanted to New Orleans, with all this rain, heat and humidity.

Please post what you do and the results you get so I can follow suit if we don't dry out soon.

Kathy, put a couple of tablespoons of peroxide in a spritz bottle and fill it with water and try it on a leaf to see what it would do. Or, you might even put some soda in a spritz bottle and fill with water and try it on a leaf. Try both. If they work use a bigger sprayer.

I get mine looking like that in the GH
If they're in there you have to have a fan going
I usually strip alot of the big leaves to make room for air circulation
But When mine are in the GH I am not trying to get them to grow
I'm just trying to keep them alive....LOL(an even thats a challenge)

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Ladies for all the help. We got the other fan up at the other end of the greenhouse. But I usually don't run the fans in the rain so that the fans won't get wet, their hanging right in fron t of the door ways at each end. I know, mother nature always over exerts herself or is just plain lazy. Never a happy medium with anything. LOL Just like the "too much work or not enough work thing.

I'm gonna try that peroxide thing this afternoon, if I can find a spray bottle that is. Seems I had several extra and now their all gone. Kids, I tell ya. What to do with them. LOL

kathy, it looks like tree drip and a good washing with some soap and hydrogen peroxide and drying out usually helps and often stops it completely. Did you say why they are in the GH and I missed it?? I expect, if I kept mine in the GH in the summer, that they would mildew too...I know they would have to be watered lots more than in the ground and, it seems, even in the ground that watering is non stop, except for the glorious rain...

Hmmmm. Could it be sooty mold? Might there be aphids on the branches above it?

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

No aphids, too much sun outside, was turning the leaves yellow, so I moved them back inside. I didn't have much shade to put them in

Oh, yes, kathy, now I see your problem. I have either too much sun or too much shade, no happy medium and obstacles that cannot be rearranged to meet my gardening needs. I have found that too much shade is better than too much sun...

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

your right about the shade. I just wish I had more that was outside instead of in the greenhouse LOL

This might be your problem in the greenhouse. I have a hard time in the early spring when it's cold and damp in the greenhouse. Hubby is cheap and won't let me turn up the furnace.

Sometimes it is just a change of 1 or 2 degrees that take you out of the mold zone!!! In our closets we have hot "rods" that warm the lower air which rises and our clothes don't smell yucky. ....

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Cathy, I'm thinking I don't have it that bad as that link said, I don't have anything dropping buds or leaves, I'm sure the leaves would fall off cause the moldy ones do yellow but I'm pulling the leaves before the turn too bad a yellow. so I won't spread too bad. I've sprayed with hydrogen peroxide , and have both fans going, My greenhouse is definitely not closed up, two big doors one on each end. and 6 huge windows, 3 on each side. all are opened. I am thinking the first time we get hot dry weather that things will look differently. That's not for another 3 days though LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Good luck. I do not have a greenhouse sadly, so I don't know much about them, but I would think all that you have done should be enough if you do not have spores all over.

Carol, please tell me about hot rods. In the winter here we are so wet, I could use something like that in a problem closet I have.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Kathy I feel for you, I don't have your problem but have had so many things happen with my Brugs, all the bugs and stuff you can't see but know it's there, and the constant watering because of no rain, I can't give up completely but will definately cut down to just a few for next year, and I hate to see them freeze this winter.
