We've come into town for a few more supplies .. but, still gotta go by the Library .. along with several other erands yet to run, while we're in town ...
So, wanted to stick you guys a few shots of the male and female Rufous Hummingbirds, to cast yer spyballs on! From what I read in the western Field Guide, these lil beauties are simply stoppin' by ...
The males appear as distinct 'coral red' in the Pinyon trees on our daughters' property ... But, my oh my, have they captured and thrill my ol heart. I'm on the verge of being able to get one lil female to perch on my fingers while quenchin' herself at the feeders ...
You guys, please try not to be too upset with me .. if you get no replies to any of your posts to this thread .. for another week or so, tho' ... We don't frequent town, since the nearest internet connection is a hour and a half away from where our daughter lives. (oh well, it makes a body appreciate things a bit more!!) .. hee hee ..
(huggerooners) to you all !!

... Pic #1 ... female Rufous Hummingbird
Lil bit of 'hummin' while we're in New Mexico
Magpye, excellent, excellent photos, as usual. My hummingbird activity this summer is limited to one pair. And, they appear very tentative. Enjoy yourself .... and we will hear from you, when we hear from you.
OMG! Magpye, those are absolutely magnificent shots! But MAN do we miss you around here! Not that I'm one to talk....with kids out of school for the summer, my days are very hectic now and I don't get on to DG very often at the moment either LOL. Have a fantastic time visiting your daughter and have a safe trip back home when the time comes :-)

Great shots, Mags!
Great pictures. I only have one little hummer but it tickles me to death to feed it and watch it eat.
Those are great pics! Feel like I could reach out and touch them!
What absolutely beautiful pictures. Thank you so much for sharing them.
ohmigolly, Magpye, these are marvelous closeup shots. And beautiful, too.
Hello all !! .. And, want to thank you all so much .. for the sweet comments and compliments on the hummer pics ... Yall truly are sweeties!!
Jes wanted to make a quick stop to try to give you guys a wee lil update on our extended stay here in New Mexico, with our 2nd eldest.
The daughter is fully recovered from the ATV spill .. however, she managed to find a nice long metal screw on her porch, and the thing plunged a good inch into the bottom center of her right foot. Seems 'Murphys Law' is in full swing and effect for her! Said what hurt worse, was when her Dad pulled the thing right back out of her foot - without unscrewin' it first!! .. She'd've never stood it, I tell ya! And she's truly not a klutz at all!!! .. heehee .. And all of that happened right after the po' ol P'nutman unwarrily found himself his 2nd Rattler. But, this time .. the crawly sucker got 'im right at the top of his right leg. P'nut went thru a lil bout of inactivity for a day or so, a leg twice the size as normal, and with a loss of appetite, but stayed mitey thirsty throughout.
Developed a fluid sack at the top of his leg the next day .. but fortunately, I happened to have had a couple of amoxcillin(sp?) antibiotic capsules. Thought it may would help knock out some risk of the bite becoming infected. So, I opened the two 500 mg caps up, and poured them into some bread sopped with milk. He lapped it up quickly! The very next day, he was up and following us around as usual - but with a wee lil gimp to his geddy-up tho'. .. P'nut is fully recovered now, and is out again .. keepin' the boogers at bay while we pull a bunch of downed Cedars to the house, for fixin' flower beds and defining her 'yard'. Have got her a 'log' feeder put up .. and is attractin' quite a variety a 'alien' birds (to us Arkies, that is!!) .. I'll get around to postin' a few of the 'conventional' bird pics, on another thread .. soon!
In the meantime .. here's some updated pics of a few more hummers that are visitin' (our) three feeders hangin' on her porch. Sounds like army manuevers and missile testin' goin' on around the porch. I take my breaks .. with my trusty Fuji in hand, of course!!
I can imagine we'll be back in our own environment within a couply weeks or so. Sure am missin' bein' able to frequent DG as often as I'd like tho' ...
Also, would like to wish all of the tons of newbie sign-ons (that I'm missin' seein' and welcomin') ... a big ol hearty welcome to DG !!
Huggerooners to you all !!
- Magpye
Keep in mind, that all of these pics are uncropped and unenhanced in any way ...
.. Pic #1 .. Fifteen Hummers hummin' .. (least that's all that I could fetch in one pitter at one time) !! .. lol ..
Last one, for now .. Pic #8 .. This lil gal managed to get herself inside the house through an open door. She got a lil rattled with being unable to find her way back out - and kept hitting the kitchen window. She was tiring fast .. so we easily caught her, and took her back outside to play.
She had no trouble recognizin' the feeder station .. and apparently felt quite privy to get the sole pickins .. till she got her tank filled entirely! She sat calmly in my hand for about another 20 seconds .. then darted quickly to the awaiting vast blue skies ...
Hope all of you enjoyed sharing these lil flyin' jewels with me ..
I'll be back in touch soon ...
Huggerooners, again ..

Oh Magpye! I've missed you so! And what a comeback! Wow wow wow!
Every single last one of those pics is outstanding. But the ones of the cute little girl in and on your hand just make me all giddy like a little kid....and I'm just seeing them in pics from half a world away. I can't even imagine how tickled YOU were :-)
Sooooo sorry to hear about Peanut's misadventure. Thank goodness he's alright now. That little guy is a tough one apparently!
Continue having a great time and I look forward to seeing you around here more when the fall winds start to blow in :-)
