Okay. We are looking to adopt a new pup from a rescue or shelter. Several weeks ago I asked Dave members to help me determine what kind of a breed a dog was that was up for adoption. Congrats!! You were pretty much right on. The dog didn't work out for us for other reasons--most especially that he was MUCH larger than we anticipated.
Yesterday I went to see another pup. This little girl is just 3 1/2 months old and weighs 8 pounds. Her feet are NOT very large. Her mother weighs around 20 pounds and is a benji type. (I am posting the mother's picture right after this post.) No one knows who the father was. I almost took in this little girl but walked away because I think I read too much. I read that when you adopt a mixed-breed puppy, you're really taking a chance because you never know how big they will be or what they will look like when they are full grown or what their temperament will be. I thought some of you might be able to give me some clues.
This is a picture of the little pup's face. The only white on her at all is the white you see in the pic. Her tail curls VERY slightly. Will that get more pronounced? Her hair on most of her body is sorta long for her size, but is straight. What are the chances she will be long haired? The hair on her face and on her paws is a bit longer--giving her just an ever-so-slight benji look on her face. Will that get more prounounced? Do most benji types start off with shorter hair and then the hair gets longer as they age?
I realize I may be asking some stupid questions, but Dave members are usually pretty good at answering stupid questions, so I thought I'd ask. The short and sweet of it is this: can I get a clue on her eventual size somehow and/or can I get a clue as to her hair length?
Thanks all. Eagerly awaiting your insight. Mom's picture follows.
What will I look like when I'm Grown?
