Why, when the pot is big enough, the potting soil is fine, the sun, water, and fertilizer are ample, are my container-grown 'Miniature White' cukes looking not so good? They are deep yellow at the root, and pinched looking at the ends. I had some extra seedlings so I threw them in my son's weed-patch/wildflower garden, and while there are no cukes growing there yet, the blooms are at least 1 1/2 times bigger. I'm thinking those cukes will probably turn out better. What gives? I converted much of my garden space to flowers this year, thinking I could just grow my veggies in containers, but the results have been disappointing (I am also growing cherry tomatoes, 1 bell pepper plant, 2 eggplant plants, and 2 cantalope plants). Veggie container garden question
i don't know much about cukes, but...
is it possible you overlooked this & left it on too long?, it looks over-ripe. you could check by cutting open & checking the size of the seeds. if it is, and you don't pick it, the plant will expire...
actually, i don't know anything about container gardening either, did you post this over there?
last year, my first two cukes (not mini whites though), looked like that, & i was certain i didn't overlook them, but once I picked them off, ythe plant statred back up & prodeuced many perfect ones!
good luck! (please forgive typos)
They are this color right from the start. I'm thinking they just don't like to be grown in containers. I did see some tiny cukes in my son's garden this morning....I'll know more when they get bigger. Tamara
zone5girl - a clear, close-up picture of the foliage and a picture of the plant along with growing container & possibly soil surface would give more clues than a picture of the fruit?
