The ones in the picture .. are all amorphophallus Konjac ... In the first pic there are 30 quarter to dime size tubers. and in the 2nd pic there are like 18 pots and probly another 30 something plants..

I have too many I know ... Im just bummed that this year is going so slow!!

Kaleem... I reccomend large pots and use a good liquid fertilizer with lots of phosphorous ... like 15/30/15 or you can get superbloom fertlizer with 10/50/10... works well to build big tubers.

My Konjac is a huge bulb, but is only about 2 inches tall. It flowered months ago. My Voodoo lilies are leafed out already. It's hotter than normal here.

Chris, it's been so hot and dry here this summer, almost every day in June and July was over 95, not normal at all. We finally got two good rains, one earlier in the week and one today, then the sun popped out and it's like a sauna!

I thought I had lost my Konjac bulb, but yesterday I noticed that it is out of the pot about three inches. Seems very late. Your babies really look cute.

I guess we are all havign odd weather.. I have friends who are having the same problems with their amrophs ... very slow to get going ... and I know people who are having the opposite be true...

Anyway lets say a prayer for good growth and abundant stench this fall

I've been growing the voodoo lily for almost 20 years. It doesn't bloom until the bulb is a few years old. It seems the bublets can take my cold weather but as the bulb gets larger it must be brought in for the winter. Each year the foliage gets a little larger and the bulb does also. The flower shows up about Feb. with no soil or water around the bulb. Needless to say I have to have it inside because that is winter here. But the flower smells so AWFUL. It reminds me of raw chicken left in a plastic bag in the hot sun for a week. Sorry, but I love the plant and hate the smell.

Interesting. I got mine late, so they didn't get planted until late. They're not even an inch tall, just little nubs above the soil. They were pretty small bulbs, but I did expect a little leafing out by now :(

So, no Chris, you're not alone - I'm right there with ya! :)

Mgarr-... I had my first bloom this year .... Was AWEFULL smelling .. but the most awesome flower I have ever seen. It filled the whole house with a smell I can only relate to a dead cow sitting in the sun on a hot day.

Maryev- im lucky in that my plants are NOW just finishing leafing out ... I have around 50 konjacs ... and who knows how many other amorphophallus species ... Small fries compared to my friends who have hundreds and hundereds ... EVERYONE says thiers is slow this year... so Im not feeling bad

So, yours finished leafing out in less than a week? hmmm, well mine are very slow :( I wonder why. Maybe I should move them to a place that gets direct sun for a longer period of the day?

Oh boy, I'm in trouble with the smell. If mine ever get to blooming size - it's winter here in Feb, also!

I have only had two flower ... I noticed that the smell didnt come to a full rolling boil until probly the 3rd day... For the first day or so .. I could smell it when I was right next to the plant and when I stuck my nose down into it . But, by the 3rd or 4th day the smell had filled the entire room and was seeping under the crack in the closed door and could be smelled in other parts of the house..My family got sort of cranky about the dead cow smell and I was told to cut the flower off heh.

though, if you think about it,It is a nice adaptation for the plant to have. If you are a plant living in a jungle with hot humid sweaty air and you want to get your pollination done in a hurry and you also want to get a group of pollinaters to yourself ... so that you dont have to compete as much and you can make sure that the bugs who pollinate your flowers arent visiting hundreds of other flower varieties, like bees.. THEN .. you make huge gigantic flowers that are able to pump stench and spread it through the humid hot air. Use flies an beetles not bees. works out nicely in the sense of adaptation.. But it does require lots of energy..

Anway enough rambling .. ill post my flower pic below from this year

I wonder what friend I can ask to take care of the beautiful flower for me?
