Infested brug from mail order nursery

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

I received 2 brugs and 2 daturas from a mail order nursery I have purchased healthy plants from before. One of the brugs arrived completely infested with spider mites. All 4 plants were shipped together and if they didn't have spider mites before, I'm sure they do now. Am I out of line by asking for my money back for all 4 plants?

I would try!! Last week I ordered 2 very expensive alocasias. I paid well over $100 for them. One had obvious spider mites. I took pics and emailed them to them. They gave me a sizable charge back to my credit card. Of course I had put them on my seedling table for a day before I realized they had mites, so I had to spray everything with Neem.

Emily, I received one in the mail with spider mites some time ago. It not only had mites, the plant itself was a spindly little thing. It is just now, after 6 months starting to look half way like a plant. Including shipping it cost me $20. I didn't do anything about it because the seller is a favorite of many of the people on the Brug forum.

I think if I had gotten 4 of them I would have to send them back and, as you said, ask for your money back. If the seller gives you any problem then you do have the recourse of feedback. That is what it is for. I realize that doesn't solve the money problem but in a way it does make you feel better.

All 4 were from ebay auctions and I've emailed the seller/nursery. Luckily, postage won't be very much as the nursery is about 100 miles south of here. I'm glad I checked the plants before potting them up. I keep all new arrivals quarantined for a couple weeks just in case.

Gee Jnette, I would have complained to the seller anyway. Hard earned money is hard to come by.

You are smart to quarantine them, Emily. I try to Neem all plants that I get but lately I am lucky to just unpack them. I do not know where all the time goes.

You sure are smart to quarantine them Emily. That one plant infected 6 more and it took them all months to snap out of it. Some are still showing signs of that mess. Jeanette

The nursery has given me a full refund for all 4 plants and I will be sending them back tomorrow.

I'm glad I quarantine my plants too. I had received a couple brugs from the same nusery a couple of weeks ago and, sigh, they too have spider mites. I think I'm going to take a close look over all of my brugs to see if any others are infested.

What a shame. But the truth is, if you grow more than a few brugs, mites will find you no matter where you hide. I never had mites for years, didn't even know what they were until I started growing brugs in quantity.

If any of you with problems with regard to plants or other purchases use PayPal, you can file a complaint with PayPal and my experience is that it is cleared up faster than a blink of the eye. I had trouble with rockwool that I paid twenty bucks to get overnight and after three weeks I still didn't have it - finally, I filed a PayPal complaint and the rockwool arrived overnight FedEx, with an extra slab. I LOVE PayPal and use it whenever possible, it's the best!!
