It's another beautiful day in the Kootenays. Temps are supposed to hit near 30C again and is forcasted the same for the next 2 weeks. Woo Hoo! We are expecting company from Saskatchewan this weekend, so that'll be nice.

This morning on my Garden rounds to weed, trim and dead head, I brought my digi along and took a few more shots.

I'm Expecting!

My Knightii Brug that I obtained last Fall, has a little baby Bud on it. I am so excited. My First!
(I took it around to the other 10 Brugs to show them what a Bud looks like...)

Can you see it?

Hope so, Pam. :)

Very lovely Donna. I especially like your diascia, they're one of my faves. have you seen this site? - http://www.coniston.demon.co.uk/index.htm - don't remember where I got it from but there's so many different diascia its amazing.

Thanks for the link, Christine. Diascia is lovely, and I look forward to mine being as full as some of the ones features in the Album. Gorgeous!

I'm so happy for you that you have a brug bud Donna. I know exactly how you feel. I was so excited when I got my first one and I can hardly wait to see yours too. You'll have to take lots of pictures so we can be right there with you as it opens. I am excited to see that a couple that I've grown from seeds are already going to bloom.

I love your Diascia. I really like them too and looked for seeds but didn't find any locally. I guess I should have ordered some. Oh well, there's always next year. What am I saying....I didn't even start all the seeds I got this year. LOL I just ran out of time and space. Sigh!

Sandy, Diascia are quite difficult to find locally. I got lucky myself this year and was able to get seven or eight varieties (lots and lots of driving). That was after the seeds I germinated croaked on me.... The only Cdn. place I was able to find Diascia seeds was through Vesseys, and they sure germinated quickly, but then I got a mold thing in my mini greenhouse that I couldn't get rid of and it killed nearly everything I had.

That Geranium is really nice. I like that, Diascia. I've never seen one before. Brugs are hard to do from what I've heard. I'm anxious to see it when it's open.

Have you ever grown Carnations from seeds? I'm thinking about it for next year.

You wouldn't happen to know what kind of Fern is generally used in Bouquets of Roses? I'd like to grow some of those too.

I'd wouldn't mind growing a few of those Diascia's, but I think, from the sounds of it, it's hard to grow too.

Hope you have a great weekend.

Baby's Breath? I grew some from seed this year. Only one plant survived, and it's growing very slowly. So I went and bought a plant in a 1 gallon pot and it's looking really good and growing well. I've never grown carnations from seed, but somebody was just recently talking about doing just that. Maybe they'll see this and comment.

You have a good weekend too, Darrell.

Darrell, no!! Diascia are easy to grow. They, and nearly every other seed I started didn't survive the mold in my mini greenhouse. I'm sure that it wasn't warm enough in there either. It was my first attempt at seeds, and next year I'm using grow lights instead of natural light. Surprisingly enough all that survived it was passifloras. Diascia bloom from May until September here.

Well, I don't know, maybe I'll give them a try. I'm not the best at growing flowers. I mean, they grow, but they don't come out looking like what their suppose to look like. LOL

How's your Brug coming Donna?

The reason I mentioned Carnations and Fern was because I thought maybe next year I would take 3 or 4 Carnations, put a couple leaves from the ferns with them, wrap a rubber band around them, stick them in a bucket of water, and sell them at the Garden Stand out here in my yard. But it isn't Fern's, it's Baby's Breath. Glad you mentioned it. Fern's go with Roses, Baby's Breath goes with Carnations.

I'd like to find seeds for Daisies too. I don't know the name of them though. They have sort of large white petals. That's about all I know. I'll know them when I see them.

Thanks

Darrell

I grew carnations from seed this year Darrell. They were easy to grow. They're still too small to bloom yet. I'm not sure if they bloom the first year or not. I grew Baby's Breath last year in my community garden plot and it was no problem either. I think you should give it a try next year Darrell. I think little bouquets would be a nice addition to your roadside garden stand.

I think you're right, I should grow some carnations next year and sell them at the garden stand. I'll give it a try.

Wooo Hooo!!! It sure is!!! :)

That's a lot in only 6 days.

Donna, congrats on your bloom, you'll be watching it daily. Exciting times ahead.

Thanks Jeanne,

Actually, I have settled down a bit since I first found it last week, I don't hover over it "quite" so much, but I am sure looking forward to ..."my first"! LOL

As I said in my post of last week if you missed it, it is a Knightii Brug that I got as a cutting from a friend last fall.

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

Your bud's looking good Donna. I can't believe how many nice big leaves you have on your plant. They're even all a nice dark green colour and they're not full of holes. Most of mine look awful. There aren't that many large leaves left on most of the plants and the ones that are hanging in there are yellow and windblown and full of holes.

I think I might be renting out a few of my brugs to a friend who's daughter is getting married at the end of the month. My mom says I'm going to have to take all the rest of the awful looking leaves off them before they're going to want them for the wedding. They're going to look kind of bare and I think the plants had a lot more flowers on them when she came and looked at them. I sure hope I get lots more blooms by then.

Sandy

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Actually,Sandy, Most of my Brugs have lots of holes in the leaves too. I think it's just the "nature of the beast", so to speak. Have Brugs, have bugs! I also have a couple that are pretty windblown too. I just strip the leaves off that I don't like and to heck with it. Good luck with your Brugs and I wish you many more blooms before the wedding! :)
