I've just ordered my first freesia bulbs. I read somewhere that the stalks are too heavy to stand on their own and need to be staked on some kind on "wheel thing". (Please forgive my ignorance.) Have you experienced freesia growers found this to be true?
Thanks,
Chops
Does freesia need staking?
Freesia foliage does tend to sprawl. However, it also isn't very tall (6-8 inches), so if you get one of those wheel things it should be pretty short. I just let them sprawl, but that's because I'm too cheap to buy the wheel things.
My experience has been that they must be staked. They grow so tall that I think you need the wheel thing or some floral wire.
I like to put them in a pot and let them droop.
I like to plant yellow freesia to bloom after red tulips. Sometimes they are together. I really liked red giant anemone coming out of the middle of spilling yellow freesia or white freesia too.
Luck you, in your zone you can plant them in the ground if you do that one of those wire thingies would be helpful. The foliage is about 2 feet tall
