oh...and how should we do this trade....do you want to email me your address and I'll do the same? Also, can I still plant eggplants now or do I have to wait until next year?

would you happen to have any left? i'm a sucker for heirloom tomatoes... I can get some "neon" cultivar eggplant seeds once my plant sets fruit.

Noobie, I'm afraid it's too late to plant eggplants now. You might still be able to find plants at a nursery that would produce this year, but I think you'd be much better off going to a farmer's market.

But if you start them indoors from seed, you should have a nice harvest next summer! Sow the seeds in mid to late March, transplant the seedlings into 2 inch pots when they get their second pair of "true" leaves, and keep them inside (bright windowsill might be OK, under fluorescent lights is much better) until time to plant them outside, generally around Memorial Day. I figure my timing should work for you, although you could probably transplant a week earlier if you wanted. I think eggplants like warm weather, just like peppers.

it's true... you can plant it inside but all it will do is grow vegetatively until the soil warms up... then it will flower.

What about in a greenhouse? I'm planning on buying one and having it put in during early fall.
