Zarabeth-
this picture came up on my random photo today.
GREAT photo of fabulous flowers!

If they set seed, I'd LOVE to trade this Fall.

Zarabeth-
I was reminded of verbascum again this morning from a plant trading post...

Do you remember where you got your seeds? I think I want to buy some now, so I can get them started in the greenhouse this winter...

Yours are such pretty colors, so I want to get them from the same place...
thanks!

I think I got them from Burpee - I am checking for seeds to collect, but the description says they aren't invasive like other mulleins, and they might be right because so far no luck. I will check the pack when I get home this weekend.

I'll check out Burpee. thank you!

Zarebeth-
Hi!
I bought some of this verbascum. Burpee was out, so purchased from Swallowtail seeds.
It mentions on the packet that they do NOT self sow...

So?...how in the world did they get the seeds? lol....

Did yours ever set any seeds?...I am curious to see if they just don't seed as much as the others, OR, if they had to do some "lab tweeking" to get the seeds...

Thanks!

Well, I am not sure. I was unable to harvest any seeds from them, but I was a bit lax this year because I was kept on the road much more than normal. I won't know for sure if they self-seed until everything starts sprouting this spring! On the plus side, I have some seeds left from last year, and hopefully our mild winter in Zone 4 will allow my Zone 5 plants to survive.

Will spring never arrive? *sigh*

Could be it was a sterile hybrid...

I read so many conflicting things on these...

One site said it was sterile, another said it set seeds, but they don't come true, and yet another site, said the seeds are pricey because they have to hand-pollinate them...

Oh, well...I guess it doesn't matter...I bought seeds and once I sow them, the plants are perennial, so...

Thanks again for the introduction to them. If mine are anywhere near as pretty as your picture, I will be very pleased!

Spring has just arrived for us here, in the south...so it must be headed your way soon!

Zarabeth, I planted some verbasum hybrid plants in my mounded sunny garden last year to no avail. I thought this would be a good site since I've read that they need excellent drainage & poor soil. I don't think I overwatered the plants either, but they still seemed to just shrink away to nothing. This year I bought some 'southern charm seeds' to start early indoors. What type of soil/site did you sow your seeds in, as I want to transplant them into the garden in a similar site. Your plants are just fantastic!!!

wow nice photo... glad I started seeds of this one... hope mine look that nice

I planted them in an APS unit from Gardener's Supply Company in their germination mix. They sprouted pretty quickly and grew fast! If they come back this year, it will be year 3. They are currently planted in a good loam soil in a raised bed over sand, so I am sure there is good drainage, and they get afternoon shade.
