I'm not sure of the caterpillar, but the black, shiny critter in the background on the right hand side of the picture is a millipede - :) - Hee.

It's some sort of Tussock Moth caterpillar. Does it have longer spikes of hair on each end? We have Yellow Wooly Bears but it doesn't look quite like that. I can't find anything that looks exactly like it, but it will be some sort of moth.
