I see this happening on other forums...what do you think of doing one on Hoya Forum. This would NOT be a contest, but just a Round Robin thingy to get hoyas and possibly new cuttings shifted around.
Could someone take charge? (Sorry...lots of ideas but no time...) I.E. - take the names, tumble them up, choose who sends what to whom...and let those interested know. There would be no "rules"...no quantities, no numbers of cuttings or species 'required'.
What do ya'think? I don't care if I am sent publicalyx 'Pink Silver' and H. compacta...different clones are interesting. Lets get some movement going....
.....eyes downcast) sorry, haven't done much on contests...but am overloaded at the moment. We would have a photo contest...we could do a lot of things...

Secret Hoya Trade
Maybe simple, but how about if everyone replies to this post, and whoever the person is, that replies after you, they send you a plant. Then whoever is left, maybe put a time limit on this, they send the first person the plant. That just sounds simple. Or, maybe not. Just an easy idea.
-Heather
Heather...sounds good to me. We can start another 'thread' for the real exchange! Do you want to limit it to plants, or plants and cuttings?
Carol
Humm, why don't we try cuttings. That way we all get practice on rooting them on our own. Maybe, I am just speaking for myself though. Anyone else have any suggestions? Maybe before the person sends you something, they can ask if you have a request, something you have been looking for. So, whoever posts after you, you send a plant to. Is that right?

Sounds good... That way our Canadian friends can play!!!
Let's hear ideas from some others.....??????????? halllooooooo, anybody out there?
We could all update our "wants" lists, that way we can be surprised with what we get. Or we can post what we already have (some of you will find a MUCH shorter route by listing what you DON'T have, and you know who you are! LOL). Carol, can we just mail the cuttings with a little damp sphagnum moss around it to keep it from dehydrating on the trip?
Karen
Yes, Karen...that's a good way to do it.
If you send small hoyas, like lacunosa, bella etc., you can put in the cuttings in a large ziplock bag, blow it full of air and seal. Make sure it doesn't get squished. When receiving cuttings, if they look a bit sad, soak them in warm water, put them in a bit of coke...
David Liddle ships his all over the world wrapped in newsprint (a wonderful insulator).
Carol
Hey Christine,
If your organizing a great white north secret trade, i am in...lol....nothing like adding more cuttings to a "bad" habit.!
Sandy
I feel better about it being done without wants/don't wants....some people just have one or two so they will be limited .... others have more...so there are, for me, no parameters nor 'have tos'. If you get an extra in the swap...use it later to swap for something you want. My feelings would not be hurt if I saw that X wanted to swap a cutting I sent for something else.... That's what's fun...
Great...Christine...if you can organize those northerners amongst themselves...GREAT.
Who wants to start it? I will pop in the middle. Should we make it last 6 days...then end it?
I'd like to be included if possible, Christine. :Donna
Christine: let both start a thread on Monday ...OK? You for the Canadians, and since no one else has jumped in there, I will start one for the Yanks on the same day. We will let it run until Saturday, the ? (next Sat.).
THIS IS FOR FUN, EVERYONE!!!! NO JUDGEMENTS, NO POINTS ...JUST FOR FUN. EVERYONE SHOULD TAKE PART FOR THE FUN OF SHARING. IT ISN'T ABOUT WHO HAS WHAT MORE THAN WHOM.... (we are bonding..get it?). LOL
Carol
Carol,
so even if we just have the basic hoyas to trade, thats okay? i have never done a secret trade before....
Sandy
MORE than OK. GREAT!!! Your 'basic hoya' may not be the same as another has, and may possiby be a different clone. They are ALL exciting...GOFERIT!!! The more hoyas that get into circulation, the healthier the collections are!!!
Great.... just have to wait for Christine to get it happening in canuck land!.....
Sandy
Christine....so....Monday morning YOU start the Canadians...and about noon your time, I will start off the Yanks...OK?
Remember...this is for fun...not a contest...no one is going to tell your mother...ENJOY!
Carol
This is exciting! Okay, I'll start off a thread either first thing Monday a.m., with the names of those who already want in - Sandy130 (Sandy) and OldFloweGirl (Donna) and me of course. I'll leave a link to the thread in the Canadian forum too, just in case we can hook some more of us in that way too.
Yeah!! This is going to be fun. I like the idea of a six day listing. I don't know if I'm more excited about getting a new cutting or sending a cutting to someone else. Cheers!
-Heather
Heather, you expressed my feelings exactly! I'm in!
Me to, me to. So if we're trading only in Canada than how in the heck are we going to get some of those neato hoyas that the other side of the fence has???
;) Donna
I'm not really sure, so I guess we'll have to stay on our own side. I wonder if we can get PanamonCreel involved than?
:) Donna
Hi Everyone!
I just got back from vacation, and just read this thread, id like to join in too!!
Jaimee
Actually, Christine, I think that cuttings, Priority Mail can slip thru (wink, wink, nudge, nudge). I think you guys should be in with us Yanks! Whaddya think?
Sounds like fun----I am in !!!!
For those who get a Canadian in the trade...email me and I will "share some information".
wink wink nudge nudge
Carol
We need all the advice we can get Carol...lol...this sounds great.....
Sounds good to me!
:) Donna
Ohhh and how about me... :-) from lovely Sweden?
/Maria
LOL, Carol. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink... :D
Well...I have heard that you can just put cuttings in a box and send them over....that no one pays much attention to it. From HI they are very strict... I think it would be fine....of course, Maria...the more the merrier!!!
Hey, Milan...you gonna play with us?
Christine...you want to start the "robin" on a new thread giving the perametres and the days it will last (5?6?)...Maybe start tomorrow morning and cut it off Friday morning?
What should we do...I hate giving out addresses on a public access place....how about just our name and some appropriately rude or funny comment...LOL and our "benefactor" can write a PM for the address?
I think that all participants should provide their address to the coordinator, and the coordinator selects who gives to who, and sends emails out with that info. That's the only way its gonna stay secret, right? I was in a secret pet present exchange at Xmas and they did it this way.
I'll start a thread in Canadian Gardening to alert all Cannucks - registration is open from Noon Today EDT (July 11) to Noon Friday (July 15) - whatever time zone you're in.
Christine

If it isn't too late, I would love to join in.
Patricia
Me too, please and thanks!
Christine...I agree...the other way isn't secret. Are you volunteering as coordinator? OH, wonderful!!!
Carol
MAMBM*....LOL... Looks like I've "volunteered" to coordinate the secret hoya trade. I happily accept my "nomination". What are summers for, if not goofing off from work...lol.
So, as my first job as co-ordinator, Carol, are you still going to post an "Official Secret Hoya Trade" thread, like I've been telling everyone? Or maybe "Secret Hoya Trade Sign-Up" thread?
Christine
