I dug this up in Atlanta Michigan many years ago and I have never known what it is. Unfortunately it is very invasive and I was sorry I planted it in my gardens.

"Very invasive" is an understatement! I've been trying for 3 years to get rid of mine. I hate this plant with a passion.It would look really nice in a meadow though.
