i went to a nursery near greenwood Sc this morning with some friends and saw a beutiful bushy brug. said it wasnt for sale as it was sick. now to me it looked great but the lady showed me the buds on it.
they were curling like a snail shell. why would they do that??? the lady said this was the second flush and the first one had similiar things happen to the buds. she said it was a sickness of some kind.
really curious as i have never seen a bud curl till these

Seems if my memory serves me correctly that some have said that leaves curl when their are either mites or some nutrition lacking thereof. Hopefully someone will come along and answer to be sure though. Mine have also done this too. I would bet it's probably the latter though.
Oops lol...the buds too? Hmmm well I've seen that happen too, but I'm not sure it was mites ....probably not. I just thought when my bud curled up, and when it dropped it would be ok...so I waited...sure enough, the calyx dropped down and it was kind of curled (not much though) and the corolla was fine. And after that they weren't like this again. That was the 1st flush too. Glad you didn't buy it if it's got something you could give to your other pretties :-)

I have only seen it with bad mites Marie. Though if it had them, I would think the leaves would be a mess too. Funny though, I seem to think I have a brug with its bud ends curling up, I will look today as I make all my rounds.
Too bad you didn't take a picture. It would be so interesting to see. I know some brugs have genetic problems and will never bloom right. I had a beautiful brug, big and happy. The buds were fantastic. They would be nice and pink as they came out and with long tendrils if I recall correctly. Then just before they should open up completely, they turned brown and withered away. 1 bud after another. I was so frustrated. I waited for the second flush, same thing. Then I cut off the main branch and waited till it grew back. Same thing happened. I gave up. It died a violent death.
